Review of the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack on a 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack

Hello everybody, Clayton here at etrailer and today we're gonna be taking a look at the Kuat Transfer V2 bike rack for our 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack. Today, we have our rack installed on an inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter receiver tube but this also works with two inch hitches. And today, we are lookin at the single bike version but if you did want a two bike version you can find that here at each trailer. This rack is gonna be a great option for ya. It's gonna work great with any bike you might put on it. As you can see, we have a carbon frame bike on here today, just uses the single wheel mount with a wheel strap in the back so nothing's going to be making contact with our bikes frame.

And one feature that I like about this rack is it is tilting. All you have to do is reach down here, press on the lever and tilt your bike away so you can get access to your trunk. As you can see, there's plenty of clearance between our bike and our lift gate. And having this tilting feature is gonna be awesome. It doesn't ever really get to the trail and so we just tilt our bike away, then we can get all of our gear or if ya go to the grocery store before, simply tilt your bike away and put your groceries in your trunk.

It's a pretty easy to use rack. All you have to do to take your bike off is push down on this lever, here, and then lift up and you just wanna rotate this down out of the way. You also wanna make sure that you're holdin onto your bike as well. And then we can move back here to our wheel strap. We'll push our tab in, lift our strap out of place, then I'm gonna simply lift our bike off of our rack.

To put our rack in a storage position you wanna make sure to put your strap back into your wheel holder then take your front arm and fold it back down. One thing I like about this rack, in particular, is it is going to accommodate a lot of different styles of bikes. Our wheel cradles are designed for road bikes, mountain bikes, and fat tire bikes. We're gonna go ahead and get a few measurements for ya to help you understand where the rack is gonna sit on your Golf. We'll start from our fascia to the rear of our rack, we're lookin right at about 25 inches.

We can just fold that up then from our fascia to the closest point is right at seven inches. So then our measurement from the ground to our lever, here, is about 14-1/2. Then down here at our shank we're lookin at about 13-1/2 inches. One thing I really like about this rack is how it looks, has this nice matte black powder coat finish so it looks really sharp on the back of our Golf. Our rack is gonna use a security wrench, provided in our kit, to secure it into our hitch. And if we just slide it in like any other ball mounted accessory and tighten it down right here, and we can just add our pin and clip. And if you wanted to stick around we did get some test course footage for ya so you can see how this performs in an everyday use. Narrator This is our test course. Let's start with the slalom. This shows side to side action such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting action, such as hitting curbs potholes, road debris or even uneven pavement. Last of all, the solid speed bumps. This shows up and down action, such as driving through a parking lot or parking garage, or driving in and out of a driveway. With that being said, this is gonna be an awesome bike rack for ya. It's definitely gonna get your bike to and from the trail every day, while also looking sharp on the back of your Golf. I really like how nothing touches the frame. You can definitely use it for any bike you might have. With that being said, that's gonna do it for our look at the Kuat Transfer V2 platform rack on our 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack..
