Review of the Kuat Ski and Snowboard Racks on a 2017 Toyota Highlander

Hi, everyone. Aiden here with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Kuat Grip Ski and Snowboard Carrier here on our 2017 Toyota Highlander. Now we've got this one here in black today. We also have a gray option as well as some larger capacity options but they're all gonna operate the same way. And I really like this one a lot because you've got a specific feature that a lot of other carriers in this style do not have.

So if you open this up, you've got these two tabs on the bottom that you can press in and extend the whole tray out so you can get much easier access to your gear. This way I'm not having to climb up into the vehicle, get my feet with my snowy boots up in there and making everything messy. It's just easy to access right here from the ground. That's really nice. I think that feature is really understated and it just makes the whole process easier.

I think it's especially useful on the Highlander here with the roof rack from the factory because we don't have any crossbars that's overhang. We have to mount our carrier pretty far in and I'm gonna have to already lean in pretty far just to get to the first spot in many other ski carriers. So being able to bring that out, just grab my gear from the inside there and pull it out is really convenient. Now you are gonna be able to carry four pairs of skis or two boards with this. Now, obviously everyone's gear is going to be a bit different.

So a measurement here that might be useful is the actual usable space. So from inside edge to inside edge you've got about 22 inches of space. So if you need to lay out your gear, measure it out see if it's gonna fit in that sort of space. And you should be good. Now on the inside, you've got these very nice rubber teeth which are going to one, be a nice traction point give some good grip to your gear, but also protect it.

They've got nice cushion on there and I think it'll keep everything nice and safe up on your roof. You also have plenty of points for locking so the clamps will lock here. So we've got the carrier locked to our roof rack and we've got the lock here to lock our gear in the carrier. So everything's secure while it's up on your roof. And overall, I think as far as this type of ski carrier goes, it's probably one of my favorites. You've got the option to go with a box, but the only thing with that is they tend to be more expensive. They take up a ton of space when you're not using them and you're gonna be adding a ton of height to your vehicle. With this it's pretty low profile. It sits out of the way really well and it still holds your gear really safely. And I think for your Highlander it's gonna be a really good fit. Thanks for watching..
