Review of the Kuat Hitch Bike Racks on a 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Adam: Hi, everyone. Adam, with Today we're going to be taking a look at the Kuat Transfer on our 2019 Jeep Cherokee. So this is the gun metal gray color that we have on each But it does come in black as well. So pick whatever one goes best with your car.

This one does go really well with our gray Cherokee here, so that's why I picked this one. We are going to be able to hold up to two different bikes with no frame contact. So it's going to be really good for your carbon fiber bikes as you see here. One of the main things with this one, we can tilt it with the bikes installed. All we have to do is just press down this lever and lean it down like so. This is going to allow you to grab anything that is in the back hatch of your Cherokee, whether it be GoPro, backpack, maybe a lunch or two and a helmet, of course.

Whatever it is, you can grab that pretty easily without removing your bikes. So if you're at a gas station, while you're on vacation, you don't have to be in the parking lot, unloading your bikes to get all that stuff out of your back of your Jeep. All you got to do is just lift this up like so just to get it back in place. So we do have a wheel cradle back here that has a cam buckle type strap. And to get it off, you just press in this tab and slide it up like so. I will start with that one because this basically just controls that vertical movement that you get when you're going down the road.

But this wheel hook up here does hold this upright. So be sure to put a hand on your bike when you press this trigger, slide it up, fold it out. And if you need to get a little bit closer to your bike, you can fold that out as well, get right up to it and you can take it off. And whenever you're done, you can just fold these back like so.These arms do not lock into place whatsoever. But what I have been doing is just sliding them underneath that wheel hook a little bit.

So then you won't really get any movement there. So let's take some measurements. In this position, we add about 31 inches from the back of our bumper to this point right here. It's always nice to know if we're going to have to put this in a stowaway position or remove it out of our hitch for it to fit into our garage. If we do need to cut down on that length, you just push down the same exact lever and tilt it up. We do not have any contact, but it will wiggle and maybe tap that bumper as it sits. We have less than an inch of clearance between this wheel cradle in your bumper. We are going to cut down our length to about 10 and a half inches from this wheel cradle right here. So looking down on our shank, we do have a two-inch hitch receiver on this Cherokee. And this sleeve is going to make it compatible with that two-inch. We can actually remove this sleeve, and it's going to be compatible with any inch and a quarter hitch receiver as well. It does come with an anti-rattle bolt and a safety pin. And what that does is just takes out all that shake and play inside your hitch. And that just about does it for a look at the Kuat Transfer on our 2019 Jeep Cherokee. Here on our test course, we'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side to side inaudible 00:03:57. This simulates turning corners or evasively maneuvering.Once we get to the alternating speed bumps, we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb or pothole or driving over uneven pavement.Once we get to the full speed bumps, we'll see the up and down action. This will be just like driving in and out of a parking lot, parking garage or driveway..
