Review of the Kuat Hitch Bike Racks on a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan we're doing a test fit of the Kuat Transfer platform-style 2-bike rack. That part number is TS02G. Now we already have our bike secured down. We're first going to show you our main feature of this rack. We're going to move our wheel hook out of the way, push on our foot pedal there at the back, and we can tilt our rack away from our vehicle with our bikes fully loaded. In this position we're going to gain full access into our back hatch area to get anything in or out that we may need.

This is going to allow us to do that without having to remove our bikes or our rack. Once we're done getting everything we need, we can close up our hatch door. To put our bike rack back into place, we'll simply lift up until it clicks. Now how our bike is secured down, starting at the back we're going to have a cam buckle strap. We'll just push on the cam here at the top and pull the strap through. At the front we have a wheel hook.

This is going to sit either in front of our brakes or in front of our frame depending on how our bike is made. We'll push on the button on the side and pull up to release it, and pull straight down to ratchet it down. This is going to be great for carbon and fiber style bikes because we don't want to push too much pressure onto the frame of those carbon fiber styles so that wheel hook is going to be a great solution for that. I like to replace my hook towards the other side. Now we can take a few measurements to give us an idea of how our bike rack works with our vehicle.First measurement's going to be overall what we're adding.

It's going to be about 33-1/2". Our ground clearance is going to be about 9". our closest point is going to be about 4-1/4" away. Now do have the option to fold our bike rack up against our vehicle. Again using that same foot lever, we'll fold our bike rack up until it clicks.

Now we're only adding about 11-1/4". Our closest point is going to be about 2-1/2" away. This is a great position for close quarters situations like parking. As for our hitch, this is designed to work with both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches. We have an anti-rattle bolt and clip down there. With that anti-rattle bolt completely tightened down, it's going to keep a lot of shake and play out of our bike rack as we head down the road. That's going to be our completed look at the Kuat Transfer platform-style 2-bike rack, part number TS02G, on our 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan. Speaker 2: Here on our test course we'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side to side action. This simulates turning corners or evasively maneuvering. Once we get to the alternating speed bumps, we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb or a pothole, or driving over uneven pavement. Once we get to the full speed bumps, we'll see the up and down action. This will be just like driving in and out of a parking lot, parking garage, or driveway.
