Review of the Kuat Hitch Bike Racks on a 2017 Buick Envision

Speaker 1: Today, on this 2017 Buick Envision, we're going to be test fitting the Kuat Transfer Two Bike Platform Rack for inch and a quarter and two inch hitches, part number TS02G. We already have a bike installed on the rack, so let's take a closer look and show off some of the features. One of the nice features about this is the fact that it can tilt away from the vehicle with both bikes attached. What makes it different is, opposed to having to reach up underneath and get to a switch or to a knob or whatever to pull out, on this one you can actually come up to this foot pedal here. Just push down, and the bikes will tilt away. Now we have plenty of space in between our handlebars and our hatch, and plenty of room to get to our hatch to get what we need. We'll put it back up into place, and you'll hear that click. How it's held in place, we're not going to have any frame contact at all.

Instead, we're going to have a wheel hook up at the front and a wheel strap at the rear to hold that in place. Right now we have a road bike in its place. This can also fit road bikes, alternate frame bikes, and most kids' bikes as well, since it grips it by the wheels as opposed to the frame. With an adapter kit that's sold separately, you can actually use this with fat bikes as well.So let's go ahead and take the bike off. We'll start with the rear strap here by pushing this top tab in like so.

Then holding onto the bike, we'll push this button on the other side of our wheel hook, in and push up. To put it into place, you just push down and it'll ratchet it down into place. With the bike rack in this position, I'm going to give you a couple quick measurements. I'll take our wheel hook and fold it out of the way. Measure from the edge of the bumper to our outermost point, we've added about 32 1/2 inches to the rear of the vehicle. Our ground clearance is going to be about 22 1/2 inches.

Our closest point is going to be about four inches to this edge here. Now when it's folded flat like this, you can have rear hatch access as well, but you can also push it up now against the vehicle for those close quarters situations such as parking. With it in this position, again, measuring from the edge of the bumper, now we're only at about 10 1/2 inches. Our ground clearance is about 12 1/2 inches, and our closest point is about two inches to this edge here. How this attaches to the hitch, we're going to have an anti-rattle bolt and pin that'll keep it in place and take the shake and play out as well. You'll also see it has a collar around the back side of it here. Once you remove that, it can be used with inch and a quarter hitches, so this can work with multiple vehicles. There you have it for the Kuat Transfer Two Bike Platform Rack on our 2017 Buick Envision.

Here on our test course, we'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side to side action. This simulates turning the corners or basically maneuvering.Once we get to the alternating speed bumps, we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb or pothole, or driving over uneven pavement.Once we get to the full speed bumps, we'll see the up and down action. This will be just like driving in and out of a parking lot, parking garage or driveway.
