Review of the Husky Silver Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Husky Silver Series 16K Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch with Slider. Its part number is HT31326-31196. Now, to operate the slider portion, we'll have that right here, and what we'll do here is lift up on our lever. As we do it, it's going to rotate our locking plate up and out of the way, and then that allows us to slide that back, reengage the lever there. Then, we can lock it in that position for a maneuvering position. Now, this delivers 10" of travel, so that's going to get the front of our camper 10" further away from the rear of our vehicle. It's going to make it nice at the low speeds only when we're trying to maneuver into our parking spaces, maybe camp sites and things like that.

Now, it's going to travel over those square beams on a synthetic material, so we don't have to worry about wear. We don't have to worry about corrosion, and we don't have to worry about lubricating these. These are going to work very well. It's one of the easier sliders to move forward and back that we've got out on the market. Now, we're going to bring our handle from the maneuvering position here into the towing position here. Then, we can bring our fifth wheel head right back up to the front position just like that.

Make sure it's locked out and resecure it with the pin. The single-jaw latching mechanism is designed to fully secure our king pin and help to reduce some of that jarring and chucking we can sometimes get as we head down the road. Now, to release the actual king pin from the fifth wheel, we've got a straight line pull handle. You see that's going to pull straight out and it creates that gap there to indicate we're not connected yet. Then, as our king pin slides in and hits the pressure plate on the bottom, that jaw's going to come over and automatically lock in behind our king pin. Also, another indicator for you, to let us know that we're properly connected is the little tab right here that's going to poke out when our king pin slides in. It pushes that out indicating we've got a proper connection and then use the provided pin to secure our handle and keep it from sliding out, or you can see there's also a nice large hole there if you wanted to use a padlock for some additional security. Now, you'll see the head does have some side-to-side pivot.

This is to help cure the issue that we commonly see when we're trying to unhook our fifth wheel trailer on uneven terrain. What happens is if that trailer tilts and our head doesn't, it gets bound up. This nonbinding system's going to allow us even on that uneven terrain to easily hook up and unhook from our camper. Now, you'll see this center pin in which our head is going to tilt side to side on. It's fully serviceable with a greaser, so we can easily keep that maintained. You'll also notice the four holes designed on our center beam here.

These will allow us 3" of adjustment, so we can set our hitch height anywhere from 14-1/2" up to 17-1/2". Now, our fifth wheel hitch is going to offer a 4,000-pound vertical load limit. That'd be the maximum downward force that we want to put here on the head. It offers a 16,000-pound gross trailer weight rating. It's going to be the total weight of your trailer and anything that you we're to load up on it. Of course, you do want to check the owner's manual on your truck, see what its tow rating is and go off of whichever of those numbers are the lowest. The patient's going to complete our look at the Husky Silver Series 16K Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch with Slider, part number is HT31326-31196.
