Review of the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness

Today, we're going to be taking a look at Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. We do recommend that you always use our fit guide, though, to ensure that you're purchasing the correct component for your vehicle. This wiring harness is custom-fit for your Subaru, and what's great about it is that it's a plug-and-play harness. It doesn't require you to cut or splice any of your wiring to get the necessary lighting that you need on your trailer. On our Crosstrek, our connector's going to be located here underneath that rear threshold panel. On any of your Subarus that you're going to be installing this on, the connector's going to look exactly the same as this one, with three pins on top, five on bottom, and it's going to be in this lower, back driver's side area, whether it be underneath this panel or underneath the paneling over here.In the directions, Hopkins does recommend loosening this panel up to look behind it as well. Depending on your model, you may have to take that loose and look behind there. It's going to offer circuits that provide you a left-turn signal, right-turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps, keeping you DOT-complaint in all states. What I like about the Hopkins that sets it apart from the other models out there for your Subaru, is that it comes pre-installed with a grommet to allow you to route it outside the vehicle. So if you're dead-set on having it mounted and attached to the hitch, this is one of the best options you can get, because it fits right into your factory grommet that was located under your spare tire. One of the drawbacks that the Hopkins does have over some of the other models, though, is that it doesn't have an inline fuse anywhere to protect it.

So if the Hopkins failed to catch a fault and shut down a circuit on your trailer, it is possible that a fuse could open on your vehicle. It's highly unlikely, as the module is designed to do that protection internally, but that additional fuse is a nice little added touch that this doesn't have.Having handled all the wiring harnesses for your Subaru, I do like the wiring on this one. They're fully coated all the way down, keeping it nice and protected. This is especially nice, since this one does have that option to be routed outside, whereas the other ones recommend that you keep it stored inside the vehicle. And that completes our look at Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector.
