Review of the Hollywood Racks Hitch Bike Racks on a 2016 GMC Sierra 2500

Hey everyone, Charles here at trailer. And today we're taking a look at the Hollywood Sport Rider SE bike rack on our 2016 GMC Sierra 2500. This bike rack is gonna be great for carrying those extra heavy electric bikes because you can carry up to 80 pounds per bike. I think it's one of the largest weight capacity bike racks that we have to offer. If you had a custom paint job or a carbon fiber bike that you wanted to bring along, this might not be the best option for you since it is a frame mount but for that extra peace of mind, if you really had to take it, there's a foam padding on the hooks themselves and then an extra even softer foam padding on the hooks. It's gonna be made out of steel.

So it's very durable. It's gonna last a long time and it's finished with a black powder coat, making it rust resistant. We're gonna have three points of contact securing the bike to the rack, a strap for each tire and then the frame mounts. To take the bike off, we're gonna start with the straps, just push on that button and get these out of the way. And then keeping one hand on the frame so it doesn't fall on your truck.

We can then push on the buttons here and slide these hooks up and now our bike is free. And with the bike off we can take a closer look at some of the features. So again, we have the foam padding on each hook. They also have a lock core on each hook as well that are gonna be keyed alike with each other and with the lock that comes on your hitch pin. So it's gonna keep your bike secure to the rack and your rack secure to your truck.

This mast is also gonna fold down for when we fold this up. If we're parking in a garage or just for storage, to do that, we're just gonna take this pin and rotate it. So it's pointing straight up, that way we can slide it out because of this security match right here. But once that's out of there, we can go ahead, fold that down and reinsert the pin. Over here at the cradles, you can see that we can accommodate all kinds of different tire sizes all the way up to your five inch fat tires.

Each strap has this extra rubber padding on there just for more protection for your tires. And they will slide left and right to accommodate your wheel bases of up to 60 inches. So this thing can also tilt away which doesn't make that much of a difference for us being in a truck. But to do that, we are just gonna remove this pin and clip here and then pull on this knob. That way, we can go ahead and open the tailgate. And with the bike off, we're not gonna make any contact. If the bike was on, then we definitely would. But in that case, we can just open it a little bit and open up the Tonneau cover, grab our helmets or whatever else we need. Lifting it back into place, you're gonna hear an audible click so you know it's in its upright position. Just don't forget to reinsert the pin and clip. And with the bike rack on the back of your vehicle, you have some added length. So from the bumper to the furthest point of the rack, we're at about 31 inches of added length. So keep that in mind when we're backing up and the ground clearance to the bottom of this reflector is about 25 and a quarter inches. And from the shank, about 18 and a quarter inches. Another thing to keep in mind when you're going down those steep hills or driveways, the front of your vehicle's gonna go up and the rear's gonna go down. We can also fold this rack up by using the knob that we used to tilt it away. And again, you're gonna hear that click once it locks into place. And so now the distance from the bumper to the furthest point, it's gonna be about 18 inches and the closest point looking at about eight and three quarter inches, but nothing to worry about as it's not gonna get any closer than that. Over here, we have our two inch shank that fits into our two inch hitch receiver. It does have a welded stopping plate which makes it a lot easier so that you don't have to, you know, get down on your hands and knees, making sure that the holes align. You just stick it right in and it stops right where you need it to be. One thing to note, actually, before we note that, just know that it has a self-tensioning knob. So you're not gonna need any tools installing this but because we have this hitch adapter that converts it into a two inch from a two and a half inch, it's really tightening it down to the adapter instead of the actual hitch itself. So there is some play in there, not much side to side but most of the play's gonna be up and down. But if you're maxing this thing out with 80 pounds per bike, it shouldn't be too much of a problem for you. Overall, this is a solid, durable rack. It's gonna be great for carrying those extra heavy electric bikes. If the little bit of play in the hitch is a little bit of a problem for you. Check out the Yakima OnRamp, it has a anti rattle bolt and it's just gonna secure it, eliminating all the play. Plus it has an included ramp to help load and unload your bikes a lot easier but otherwise this is a good choice. And that's gonna do it for our look on the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE on the 2016 GMC Sierra 2500..
