Review of the Gear Up Platinum Steel Extra Bikes Kit

Today, we'll be taking a quick look at the Gear Up platinum steel extra bike kit with freestanding bike storage rack, part number GU33064. This add on kit allows you to carry two more additional bikes on the back side of your Gear Up platinum freestanding stand. You can see that here on the front side, you have the two sets of cradle arms to hold two separate bikes. Then on the back side, the add on kit basically is two more sets of cradles so you can carry two additional bikes on the back side of the stand. Now, here at the base of the rack, you can see that I already went ahead and installed our second stabilizer bar. The stabilizer bar is needed because you're going to be having weight on the back side of the rack. It gives 360 degree support on the rack since you're going to be carry bikes on both sides.

Now, I'll go ahead on how to actually install the second set of the cradle arms. For today, we're just going to be loading up three bikes, I'm going to show you how to install one set of frame cradles. Basically, the same exact process will follow for the bottom set of frame cradles. What we'll need to do first is just undo this top red stabilizing bar. This needs to be removed basically so we can slide the frame cradles down onto the grave post. Now, what I'll do is I'll go ahead and turn the rack so you can kind of get an idea on what's going on here.

We have the two sets of frame cradles facing the wrong way. I'll slide the opening of the add on kit directly down onto the post. We're going to make sure these black spacers don't pop off. Those black spacers are just going to give you a little more support so there's not as much wiggle room when you're sliding it down. Then we'll go ahead and take the black wing nut with the silver bolt and thread it through the hole in the cradle arm. That one is nice and tight.

I'll go ahead and repeat the same process for the other cradle. Now, you can kind of see that the cradle arms are kind of facing towards each other. They may look a little crooked, that's just because the hardware towards the base of the rack is all tightened down and we're going to go ahead and remove that top bracket so everything is kind of going to be twisted a bit. We'll only reinstall that bracket at the top. Everything should square up nicely. Now that we got the top set in place, basically if you we're to install a second set on the bottom, you will just need to remove these two bolts, lift it up and then slide the cradles directly down onto the post just like we did for the top set.

Now that we got them all installed, I'll go ahead and reinstall that bracket right on top. Now that we got one set of cradles installed from our add on kit we'll go ahead and load some bikes. With the add on kit, the frame cradles are exactly the same. They have that removable rubber piece to be able to adjust and account different styles, widths or frames. They also can move back and forth along the arm of the frame cradle. For example, if you had a mountain bike here with wide handle bars, you need to be able to scoot the bike outwards, away from this bike here to give you a little bit more room. Basically, frame cradles are exactly the same. The add on kit just allows you to carry an additional two bikes on your Gear Up platinum freestanding storage rack. Now that we got our add on kit installed onto our Gear Up platinum two bike stand, that will complete today's review of the Gear Up platinum steel extra bike kit with freestanding bike storage rack, part number GU33064. .
