Review of the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Slider

Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Demco Hujacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, part number DM8550022. Here's what our Hijacker looks like fully assembled and inserted into the under-bed mount rails. The biggest feature about the Hijacker is the auto slide feature. With this one going into the under-bed mount rails. It functions the same as the one with the above bed rails. Here you can see as the truck turns, it pivots inside the Hijacker unit. As it pivots, it works its way towards the rear of the truck in order to gain more access.

Here is a full 90 degree, it's gonna come back all the way, that full 14 inches in order us to give us the clinch necessary to make sure we don't have any issues. As we straighten back out, it will go back straight and move all the way back to the front of the Hijacker unit. Here you can see the rack and pinion style gears. That as the trailer turns, it rotates that unit in order to move it backwards. When it straightens back out, it comes back in line straight. The head of the Hijacker will turn a full 90 degrees with the trailer.

If the trailer strayed off to the side, this will be in line with that trailer. At the point it will move all the way back in order to give us a full 14 inches of travel. What's great about this Hijacker is that it is an auto sliding unit. You don't have to get out in order to release it so that it can slide back, it does it automatically because of the gear system in it. Inside the jaw here, it locks the kingpin down so that the kingpin doesn't turn inside here. That's what allows us to grip and turn to the side with it. This features a dual pivot head, which is gonna make hookup easier so that it doesn't get bound up at any point.

Plus the brackets on the side here that have the feet on them, its got a couple different holes, which is gonna give different mounting options. You have three possible heights that you can set this at depending on what your needs are between your truck and your trailer. Those heights are fifteen and a half inches, sixteen and three quarter inches and eighteen and one quarter inches. That's going to be the total height of your Hijacker unit from the bed. Features a spring loaded handed. If you remove this safety pin here, you'll see that it will open the jaw.

Then, it's spring loaded so when you're ready to close it. Then the kingping heads in there it will automatically close and go back in. Then you just need to replace your safety pin and clip. Here on the back of the unit, we got this outrigger and what this can do is it adjust so that you can make sure that this pad that's on the bottom of this plate can seat on the bed. What that does is, when the weight is shifted back in the unit, that's going to allow the pressure to go onto that and stay on the truck. As apposed to pulling up on the front of the unit. This Hijacker Autoslide features and 18,0000 lbs gross towing weight and a 4,500 lbs vertical load limit. What I like most about this unit is that Autoslide feature. It works very well and it's nice and heavy duty. So, it's going to do exactly what you need it to do. Something that's really nice about those underbed rails is that not only does it give you full bed access when you don't have the fifth wheel in place; but when you do put the fifth wheel in, it's much easier to lock it in place. You don't have to worry about lining up the tabs and then putting the pin through on the underside. Rather, you get the pins down into their location, twist the handles and they're locked into place. Now, lets show you how easy it is to install the fifth wheel hitch from this set up. So in this inaudible 00:03:43 silver handles all the way out. That's gonna turn these pins into the proper position in order to be able to slide down in the holes in the rails. Once it's down in the place, you take these handles and turn them inward in order to lock those pins inside our rails. Once we've got our handles turned inward, underneath the lip here. We can take out pins and slide them down through the holes and with that hols there, once it's down through both. We can take out clip and insert it and it will be like that for all four of the handles. That' going to complete out look at the Demco Hijacker auto slide 5th wheel trailer hitch.
