Review of the Darby Extend-A-Truck Hitch Cargo Carrier on a 2008 Nissan Frontier

Today on our 2008 Nissan Frontier we're doing a test-fit of the Darby Extend-A-Truck Hitch Mounted Load Extender. That part number is DTA944. Now, we already have it set in our first position here, and we're going to start off by looking at some features. Then we'll show you our second position. A great feature of this position is that we do have that T up top, and we've got our two places to secure any straps, which will help to secure our gear. Now, this is going to be in line with your cab or your roof rack if you had a roof rack on your vehicle. What's great about that is that anything that's long and oversized can fit from your roof rack or the cab of your truck up to the top of your Extend-A-Truck.

If we didn't have the tonneau cover, we could also have something diagonal from the truck bed up on top to the Extend-A-Truck here. What's great about this is that we do have those tie-down points. We do have the option to adjust our T portion so that we can make it shorter or taller if we need to. We'll take a few measurements here. Our closest point is going to be about 5-3/4". Overall, to our vehicle in this position we're adding about 7-3/4".

Then our ground clearance in both positions is going to be about 13-1/2". Now, for our second position we're going to come up to the top first, and we're going to remove our pin clip. Then we'll be able to take that portion off and set it off to the side. Next, we'll remove the pin clip at the hitch, and we're just going to flip this around. We'll take the short portion, turn it to the back, and insert the longer part into the hitch and line up those pin holes. Now, the Extend-A-Truck does come with both pins and clips, so you won't have to worry about purchasing more. Though, if you want something that will help to prevent theft and tampering, we do have hitch locks available on our site, as well.

For now, I'm just going to let this rest here. I'm going to open up our tailgate, and I'm going to line up the T portion with the tailgate as best as I can. We'll go for our second hole here, and we'll replace our pin and clip. This position is great for anything that might be on your truck bed that will extend too far out. Now, we do have the tonneau cover on this vehicle specifically. It will work with that tonneau cover.

Even if you don't have one, it will still work with your vehicle. In either position, this is great for PVC pipe, lumber, any kind of kayaks or small boats that you are able to stick onto your vehicle like jon boats. Keep in mind that we still do have the two tie-down points accessible in this position. We'll do a couple more measurements. The distance between the end of the tailgate and the start of our Extend-A-Truck is going to be about 32-1/4", so you just want to make sure that you have long-enough material so that it reaches both. We're going to have about 49-1/2" added overall to the back of our truck. Once again, this is great for any long gear, but you do want to keep in mind that some states require some sort of flag attached to the end for large items sticking off the back of your truck. That's going to be our completed at the Darby Extend-A-Truck Hitch Mounted Load Extender, Part Number DTA944, on our 2008 Nissan Frontier.
