Review of the Curt Bolt On Pintle Hook with Hitch Ball

Hello, neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer, And today we're taking a look at the Curt Pintle Hook. Now this is available with a 2-5/16" ball, like we have here, or a 2" ball. Now keep in mind, It does not come with the plate. This is simply just the hook. So if you are planning on towing, right away, you're going to want to make sure that you get a pintle flip mount as well.

Now, as far as specs, this has a gross trailer weight rating of 16,000 pounds. Now when using a lunette ring, it's going to stay there. But if you're towing a regular trailer, the 2-5/16" is still going to give you that same 16,000. But going down to that 2" ball is going to drop your gross trailer weight rating to 10,000 pounds. Now, this steel construction is extremely robust.

It also has a nice black powder coat finish here, so it's going to be looking good for a long time. Now, your ball is also a chrome finish, which also looks really nice. Now, hardware is included, but you are going to have to get a mounting plate in order to be able to tow, so keep that in mind. Now, the latch pin is included, and it's actually pretty nice because once you pop this open, you can see it actually has this cable here, and that way you're not left without a pin if you drop it, it's going to stay on here. Nice feature is the ball comes pre-torqued to spec, so you don't have to mess with that.

You can simply hook this up to your mounting plate, and you should be ready to tow. So when you're ready to hook up to your trailer, it's pretty simple. You can just get your safety latch here, pin out. Lift up on this lever, and that's going to stay open. You can then back up, and lower your trailer on.

Once you're centered up over your ball with your lunette ring, you can simply lower your trailer down. Once you have that drop down, you can simply put this in place, run your pin through, latch it up. With the rest of our towing components all hooked up, We're ready to hit the road and get to towing. The great thing about this pintle hook here is the fact that we can hook up to a standard trailer coupler as well, and it's going to be very simple all the same. So we pull our clip out here, and we're simply going to raise this in place. And it's nice, once that pin kind of drops back in, this is actually going to stay in an upright position, so that's great. And then, once we have that up, we re-insert our safety pin here. And now we can back up and get our coupler on. Now we can hook up to our ball. Now with the rest of our towing components all in place, we're ready to take our camper out. And that was a look at the Curt Pintle Hook mount, 4/8", 2", or 2-5/16" ball. Thanks for watching..
