Review of the Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier on a 2012 Nissan NV 3500

Today on our 2012 Nissan NV3500, we've got the Curt 20" by 60" cargo carrier out. We're going to test fit it and show you how it fits with our vehicle here. This cargo carrier has been designed to carry up to 500 pounds and it's for use with 2 inch hitches. Part number on it is C18150. A few things I like about the carrier, it's going to offer that medium sized expanded mesh on the floor. It's going to give us good areas for moisture, dirt and debris to fall down and out. I also like the raised rail that goes all the way around the outside.

It's about 5 1/2 inches tall, so that's going to give us good support for our gear side-to-side and front-to-back. It's also going to offer us some good tie-down locations so we can get everything secured once it's loaded. Here at the back side, we're going to have about 18 3/4 of an inch worth of ground clearance. Overall, the Curt carrier is going to add about 29 inches to the length of our vehicle. At its closest point, it's going to be about 4 inches away right here, but the shank would actually make contact with the hitch so it would never go up and actually make contact with the vehicle. You can see this sits up plenty high enough for our exhaust to come out underneath to the side exit here on the right, so really no danger when we're transporting heat sensitive materials. As far as opening the back doors are concerned, it's a little bit more of an issue there.

We're about an inch from actually being able to fully open the door. If it doesn't matter to you too much, might be a good fit, but we wanted to make you aware of that just so you had an idea that might run into a little interference there. As with any cargo carrier, you can see we've got a little bit of play. When they're secured with a pin and a clip you're going to have that. If you'd like to get rid of that, we've got several anti-rattle devices on our website. Pick one of those out, install it and you should have a nice smooth, steady, stable ride. We've had a good look at the Curt 20" by 60" cargo carrier.

We've seen how it's going to fit our 2012 Nissan NV3500. That will complete today's test fit. Here on our test course, we'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side-to-side action. This simulates turning corners or evasively maneuvering. Once we get to the alternating speed bumps, we'll see the twisting action.

This will simulate hitting a curb or a pothole or driving over uneven pavement. Once we get to the full speed bumps, we'll see the up and down action. This will be just like driving in and out of a parking lot, parking garage or driveway.
