Review of the Curt 2 Inch Chrome Hitch Ball

What's up, everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Curt trailer ball. When it comes to trailer balls, there's a couple of things we need to consider. One, we want to make sure it's the right size for our coupler. And this one is a two-inch trailer ball. So you wanna look on the top of your coupler.

Typically, it's going to say what size it is. So just check that, make sure it's the right size. Two, we want to make sure that the ball is gonna be able to handle what we plan on using it with. So this one has a capacity of 12,000 pounds. So we're probably not gonna overload this thing.

Another thing we kind of want to think about is the ball mount that we're using it with. Make sure if you do plan on kind of maxing out this trailer ball, make sure that the hitch receiver is going to be able to handle that weight as well. With this specific setup, yes, the ball is rated for 12,000 pounds, but our ball mount is not. So between the two, the lowest number is 7,500, so that's what we're limited to. If we're willing to max this ball out, what we'd have to do is grab a ball mount that's gonna be able to handle 12,000 pounds as well.

So something to kind of think about. Also the holes that the ball goes down through, the shank, we do want to make sure that it's going to have a diameter of one inch. That's how big the shank is. We don't want anything any bigger, just because there'll be a lot of play. And anything smaller of course, it's not really gonna fit.

Another thing about the shank, we are gonna make sure that we grab a ball mount that's not going to be too thick for it. The shank is about two and a quarter inches long. So we want to make sure that we can get a thickness of at least three eighths of an inch. So those are all the things you kinda have to think about whenever picking out the right combo, you know, you need a lot more components than just the ball, and we have them here at etrailer. So just use that information to piece together your system, so you can be towing properly. And that's basically it for a look at the Curt two inch trailer ball..
