Review of the Curt 24x60 Hitch Cargo Carrier on a 2016 GMC Acadia

Today on our 2016 GMC Arcadia. We're test fitting the Curt 24 by 60 folding cargo carrier. This cargo carrier has the capacity to hold up to 500 pounds and the part number for that is C18153. Now, the first thing we're going to do with this cargo carrier is take some measurements. First one is going to be our ground clearance, roundabout 20 1/2 inches there. That's because we do have a raised shank in the back there as you can see.

It's going to lift the cargo carrier up well about the ground. Our overall for the vehicle is going to be about 41 inches. Closest point on the raised shank is about 3 inches there and then the closest point of the cargo carrier is about 15 inches. Now, with the cargo carrier in the road ready position, you can reach into your back hatch and it does break over your cargo carrier, breaks over about 23 inches there. Just be aware of that if you stack a lot of materials on the back of your cargo carrier. Now, with that, we do have a single exhaust in the passenger side.

It does come straight out and head straight towards the ground so you shouldn't have to worry about carrying any heat sensitive materials in your cargo carrier. I did say that this is a folding cargo carrier. To fold it up, we're just going to pull this pin and clip here. Head to the back and just lift straight up on the cargo carrier. We'll just replace the pin and clip. Now with that, we do have some new measurements.

We're just going to do our closest point now overall. Overall, we have about 13 1/2 inches. Our closest point is about 5 inches now to the vehicle. This is great if you're wanting to park in close quarters like a parking garage. Now we've seen that, we can take a look down here at our 2-inch hitch. You can see that it is a 2-inch and that the cargo carrier fits perfectly in there.

We also have a pin and clip holding in our cargo carrier. That pin and clip is not included but you can find that part number online, it's PC3. Or you can any other type of the anti-rattle device. Now that we've seen how the Curt 24 by 60 folding cargo carrier works on our 2016 GMC Arcadia, let's see how it does on the test course. Here on our test course, we'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side to side action which simulates turning corners or evasively maneuvering. Once we get to the alternating speed bumps, we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb or pothole or driving over uneven pavement. Once we get to the full speed bumps, we'll see the up and down action. This will be just like driving in and out of a parking lot, garage or a driveway.
