Today, on our 2014 Kia Sportage, we are going to take a look at the 24 x 60 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" hitches only. That part # is C18153. We already have it on our vehicle. I'm just going to show you a few features of it. Like I said, this will hold up to 500 pounds. You see it has a mesh bottom so it is going to keep out your dirt and debris. It also has the black powder-coat that is going to help from corrosion and rusting. First things first, we are going to take a few measurements.
First one will be overall distance added to our vehicle. I am looking at 39-1/2" here. Our closest point, I am looking at 14" here. For our ground clearance, I am looking at 12-1/2" there. While our cargo carrier is in this position, you see we can get in and out of our hatch. We always want to make sure we know about our braking point when we are loading our cargo carrier.
I'm not really seeing any braking points, so just keep it in mind. You don't want to stack it up too high so you can still get in and out of your vehicle. The one thing about this Kia Sportage, it has an exhaust system on the passenger side and it is pointing downward. So if you have any heat-sensitive material, you should be all right. You shouldn't have any problems at all. The one thing about the Curt, it has a folding feature. I'm going to show you how we do that.
We have our pin and clip here. We are going to pull this and push this out. We are going to come up here and fold up, and re-insert our pin and clip again. Now we slide that in. Now we are going to take 2 more measurements. The first will be overall distance.
I'm looking at 14" there. Closest to our vehicle is 5", but down here that is about 3-3/4" right there. One thing about the Curt Cargo Carrier, it is equipped for 2" hitches only. The only thing it does not come with a pin and clip, but you can find that on our website. That part # is PC3. That is going to complete our look at the 24 x 60 Curt Cargo Carrier. The part # again is C18153 on today's 2014 Kia Sportage. Let's see how it does on our test course. Here it is on our test course. First is the slalom area which simulates side-to-side action like turning the corners or evasive maneuvers. Next are the alternate speed bumps which show you the twisting action like hitting a pothole, road debris or hitting a curb. Finally we are at the solid speed bumps which show you up and down action to simulate a parking garage or coming out of your driveway.
