Review of the Curt Cargo Carrier

Today, we'll be taking a quick look at the 24 x 60 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2-inch hitches, part number C18153. A couple new things about this cargo basket is you can see it has the ability to fold up or tilt up closer towards to the rear of the vehicle. This allows for a compact storage and also reduces the length added to the vehicle, so if you wanted to keep the cargo basket installed onto your vehicle and pull right into your garage, it's just going to prevent you from having to take it on and off to pull into your garage. The rack can easily be folded down by removing the 5/8 inch pin and clip, here at the base of the basket and tilt it down. I'll just replace the pin and clip here. Now, the hitch pin and clip are sold separately. Now, we'll go ahead and show you how to install it.

With the carrier fold it up, we'll simply slide the shank of the carrier into the opening of the hitch. We'll then need to line up the pinhole in the shank of our carrier with the pinhole in our hitch. Once we get the pinholes lined up, we'll then insert our pin into the pinholes and then secure it with a clip on the other side. It fits in 2 inch x 2 inch trailer hitch receivers, has a weight capacity of 500 pounds and comes with a limited one-year warranty. This hitch mounted cargo basket allows you to carry extra cargo on the outside of your vehicle freeing up passenger space on the inside of your car. You can see it has a nice metal mesh flooring at the base of the basket which allows you to carry wet, dirty, muddy gear and it is going to allow that mud and water and snow to drip out and dry out for year. It has the nice raised containment walls, just going to help keep all of your gear nice and contained.

You can see it, it also has the reflectors on three sides of the basket just to protect your gear and other drivers while you're out on the road. You can see the shank of the basket, has a nice rise here and this angled shank allows the bottom of the basket to be lifted up higher giving you more ground clearance especially if you're taking it out on rugged terrain. You don't want the bottom of your basket to be bottoming up. Now, we'll go ahead and load up some gear. Now that we have all of our gear loaded up and secure, we'll go ahead and take it out on a slalom course and then our bump course and show you how it performs. That will complete today's review of the 24 x 60 Folding Curt Cargo Carrier, part number C18153. .
