How to Install the CIPA Custom Towing Mirrors on a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado

Today on our 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab we're going to be doing a test fit of the CIPA Custom Towing Mirrors in a slip on design for both the driver and the passenger side, part number CM10900. The CIPA custom towing mirrors are available to be purchased individually as well. For the driver side it's part number 10901. For the passenger side it's part number 10902. If your factory mirror looks like this, then this CIPA Custom Towing Mirror is correct for you. Before we install our mirror on our factory mirror it's a good idea to clean and dirt and debris off of the back side of the mirror that may be present. This will help keep the factory mirror from getting scratches on it from dirt rubbing between the factory mirror and the CIPA custom towing mirror. Next let's go over a couple items on our CIPA custom mirror.

Here's what the back side looks like. This right here is the area where we'll be threading in the plastic screw. Here's the wedge that'll slide in between the towing mirror and the factory mirror and you may notice that the pieces of foam are already installed on this one. We are just doing a test fit so these have already been put on. A piece of foam will go in here as well.

What that's for is to keep the mirror from rubbing back and forth on your factory mirror. It'll actually look like that when installed. Notice here there's a dimple on the back side of this wedge. That's what will line up with that right there. Let's install our mirror on our factory mirror. Take the mirror and slide it over the front here.

Then take the wedge, before you get the mirror slid all the way on you'll line it up here, hold the wedge in place as you're pushing the mirror on the rest of the way. You'll then tighten down the knob here securing the mirror. Now that we have the mirror secured let's go over a couple of features here on the mirror. Out here on the towing mirror it is mounted on a ball style socket here that allows the mirror to be adjusted in several different directions. It is a manual style adjustment mirror so you will need to move it by hand. The custom towing mirror also does not get in the way of the movement of your factory mirror.

It allows you still adjustability here on the factory mirror. This particular vehicle does have manual mirrors so you have to move it by hand as well there. Another nice feature about this one is if you park in your garage or you are in a tight parking space you can still fold the factory mirror in to give you a little more room around your vehicle. These are not designed to go through an automated car wash or a car wash in general as they could damage the mirror or potentially even remove the mirror from the factory mirror just from the high pressure. Now that we have our mirror installed let's give you a quick demonstration of just how much wider field of view you'll have behind your towing vehicle with these mirrors installed. I'm standing here at the corner of the vehicle and as you can see you can see me in the factory mirror. I'm going to go ahead and take just a couple steps to my left and as you'll notice you can't see me in the factory mirror any more. I'm standing about 5 feet away from the corner of the vehicle but yet when you look in the CIPA towing mirror you can see me just fine. This gives you an idea of just how much wider field of view you'll have. It'll make your towing experience much safer as well as much more enjoyable if you're not always worrying about that vehicle that could potentially be in that blind spot. While we installed our mirror here today on our test fit on the driver side, the passenger side installs in the same manner. The wedge slides in between the towing mirror and the factory mirror and the threaded knob is put into the back side of the towing mirror securing it. That'll do it for the test fit of the CIPA Custom Towing Mirrors in a slip on design for both the driver and the passenger side, part number CM10900 on our 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab. .
