Review of the Carpod Hitch Cargo Carrier on a 2016 GMC Acadia

Today in our 2016 GMC Acadia, we're test-fitting the 23x47 Carpod walled cargo carrier. This is designed to work with two-inch hitches and it is a folding cargo carrier. This cargo carrier also holds up to 450 pounds. Part number for that is M2205. Now as you can see, we'd already have it up in the full position. This is where you can fill the pod with anything that you want to bring with you.

Now, to put it into the store position, we're just going to pull up on each of these clips on the four sides. If you push it out on the larger walls, we're going to slide the smaller walls down in. Now let's do the same on the side. You don't have to worry about this back side hitting your vehicle because there is a metal plate there to keep it in place. We'll just set it there. Let's take our pins and set them off to the side.

We want to take our strap. I found the easiest way to do that is to just feed it through while your walls are still up and let it lay there, and then just fold your walls over. Press down on the silver lever here and just feed your strap through. Then just tighten it all the way down. Now, in the store position we're going to go ahead and do some measurements. The first one's going to be our ground clearance down here.

We're about 23 inches off the ground at the back here. That's because of that raised shank up at the front. That's going to keep the Carpod higher and prevent it from hitting the ground. If you are backing out of a driveway, our overall, it's going to be about 33 and half inches there. Then our closest point is going to be right back here.

That's about three and a half inches there. Now this does fold up and put into a store position, but before we do that, we're going to go ahead and check our hatch clearance here. It looks like it does break over the carrier. You shouldn't have to worry about it hitting the carrier though, because it does break well over where the carrier is, even with that raised shank there. Now to put it in the store position, we're going to go ahead and pull this one here and clip out. We've got two clips. One of the U clips. We're going to have to shake it a little to get that out of there and let's straight up on the cargo carrier. Better make sure you hang on to your cargo carrier because it can get closer to the vehicle than you want it to and we don't want to scratch up that vehicle. Going up the hole as best we can. Where you attach that U clip and the other clip there. Now with that, we're just going to take our overall measurement here, and now we're down to about nine inches there. Now that we've seen that, we can take a look down here at this two-inch hitch that we have here for the vehicle. We could see that our cargo carrier perfectly fits in there. We can also see that we have a hitch pinning clip holding in our cargo carrier. That hitch pinning clip is not included, but you can find that on our website, part number PC3. Now that we've seen how the Carpod walled cargo carrier works with our 2016 GMC Acadia, let's see how it does in the test course.Speaker 2: Inaudible 00:04:30 this is going to show us the side to side action which simulates turning corners or basic turns. Once you get two inaudible 00:04:40, you'll see the twisting action. We shall see now in the curb inaudible 00:04:44. Once we get to the full speed bumps, you'll see the up and down action. You'll see the inaudible 00:05:01 parking lot or your driveway.
