Review of the Carpod Hitch Cargo Carrier on a 2016 Ford Expedition

Today, on our 2016 Ford Expedition, we'll be doing a test-fit of the 23 x 47 Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier. Part number is M2205. Now, we already have it on our vehicle. I'm just going to show you a few features of it. The first feature I'd like to show you will be the mesh bottom. That's pretty much going to keep out all your dirt and debris.

Now, this can hold up to 450 pounds. It also has a nice black powder coat that's going to help from rust and corrosion. Let's go ahead and take a couple of measurements. The first measurement will be the overall distance we've added to our vehicle. I'm looking at 35 inches.

Our ground clearance, I'm looking at 23 1/2 inches here, and for our closest point, I'm looking at 5 inches right here. Now, the exhaust on the Ford Expedition is on your passenger's side, and it is pointing straight out. Just keep that in mind. If you have any heat system materials you may want to place them in them toward the middle or even on the driver's side. Now, the Carpod itself has a folding position for storage, so we're going to go ahead and pull the pins out. Turn that down, turn that down.

Now the pins, I'm just going to put in my pocket for right now, but always have a designated place where you need to put them. Maybe in your glove box, or even somewhere in your vehicle anywhere. Now, this also has a strap that comes with it. We're going to go ahead and strap it down. All right.

We're going to put this on, tie you down. There we go, get that nice and tight. Now when the cargo carrier is in this position, you can see, you can get in and out of your hatch, and you have plenty of room on both sides, so if you need to put anything in, or taking anything out it should be no problem. Now, this also has a folding position too, for more storage, so we're going to pull here, the pin and clip. There we go. You'll lift it up, place the pin and clip here. All right, now we're going to take 2 more measurements. Overall distance now, I'm looking at 12 inches here, and actually it's about the same, still the 5 inches. Now, also, this is equipped for 2 inch hitches only. It does not come with the pin and clip, so you can find that part number on our website. That part number is PC3. That's going to complete the look at the Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier. Part number again, is M2205, on today's 2016 Ford Expedition. Here it is on our test course. First is the slalom area, which simulates side to side action, like turning the corners, or evasive maneuvers. Next are the alternate speed bumps which show you the twisting action like hitting a pothole, road debris, or hitting a curb. Finally, we're at the solid speed bumps which show you up and down action to simulate a parking garage, or coming out your driveway.
