Review of the Carpod Hitch Cargo Carrier on a 2015 Jeep Renegade

Today on our 2015 Jeep Renegade, we'll be doing a test fit of the Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier. That's part number M2205. It's got a 450-pound weight capacity. It's got dimensions of 23 by 47. With the walls up and everything, it offers us 13 cubic feet of space and it's held in place by a pin clip as you see there. Now the pin and clip is not included with this carrier.

You'll need to pick one up here at etrailer.com, part number PC3. Let's go ahead and take a few measurements. We'll start here at the back with some ground clearance. We've got about 15 inches back here. For our closest point, it's going to be right here to our bumper. Closest point is going to be what hits first if our carrier we're to go all the way forward.

That's about 4 inches. Then overall to the Renegade, we've added about 32 inches. All right, now our exhaust on our Renegade exits on the passenger side, right tucked up underneath here, and it is pointed down. That's going to be about 15 inches away from our carrier. You just want to make a note of that and be aware when you're carrying any heat sensitive materials on the right side of the carrier here. All right, now with our walls up as you can see, we're not going to have much clearance to get in through our rear hatch. Let's just go ahead and crack that open a little bit just to give you an idea how much you might have.

If you've got any small items you need to get out of your rear hatch, you may still be able to grab them. All right, so let's go ahead and fold this down. What we want to do is we've got these four pins holding our walls in place. We can go ahead and start on the side here. We'll just simply pull them up. I'm just going to fold in one wall at a time.

We can come over here and do the same thing. The nice thing about this wall here is it's got a little stopper there to keep it from coming in contact with the rear hatch so we can let that one go. Fold this wall in here, and then this one, and then this one. All right, now with it in this position obviously, we've got a little bit more room to get into our rear hatch. Now the nice thing about this carrier is we can fold it up for compact storage when not in use. Before we do that, we'll take our included strap and we're going to bind this together. I'm just going to go underneath and secure that. We'll come up through the cinch and pull that nice and tight. That's just going to keep everything secure and keep it from rocking back and forth when we got it folded up. The way we fold it up, we'll come over here. We'll remove our first pin. Pull the clip off. Pull out the pin there. Then, we can rotate it up aligning our pin holes down here. We'll reinsert that pin and clip. Let's take a few more measurements. Our ground clearance back here with everything folded up, we're looking at about 10-1/2 inches. Our nearest point as you can see, it's a little bit smaller. We're probably looking at about an inch and a half from here to our bumper here. Then overall, I'd say we've added about 6-1/2 inches to the Jeep Renegade with everything folded up. As you can see, it's pretty compact. It'd be a nice carrier to have. That's going to complete our test fit with our Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier, part number M2205, on our 2015 Jeep Renegade. Let's see how that carrier did on our test course. This is our test course, let's start with the slalom. This shows side to side action such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then, on to our alternating speed bumps, this shows twisting action such as hitting curbs, potholes, road debris, or any uneven pavement. Last of all, the solid speed bumps, this shows up and down action such as driving through a parking lot or parking garage or driving in and out of a driveway.
