Review of the Carpod Hitch Cargo Carrier on a 2012 Cadillac SRX

Today on our 2012 Cadillac SRX, we'll be doing a test of the CarPod Walled Folding Cargo Carrier. That's part number M2205. It gives us 13 cubic feet of space, storage. It has a weight capacity of 450 pounds. Its dimensions are 23" by 47" and can be loaded and unloaded from any one of the sides. Let's go ahead and get a few measurements.

For our closest point, it's going to be about 4" on the portion of our shank here to our bumper. Then overall to the SRX, we've added about 36". For our ground clearance back here, we're looking at about 22". Now while we're over here, I just wanted to point out the exhaust on our SRX, exits on the driver and passenger side. About 14 1/2" away.

You just want to be aware of that when carrying or hauling any heat-sensitive materials. Now the nice thing about this cargo carrier is that it can be folded. What we want to do is we'll undo our pins here. I'm just going to do one side at a time. Then we can fold the wall in.

We'll come over here to this side. Pull this one out first. We can just let that wall go, because it's got a little tab there so it doesn't make contact with our vehicle. Pull our remaining pin. Fold in the walls. Then we've got it.

Now CarPod also includes a strap so we can secure it down. That way it doesn't flap or fly all around while we're on the road. We'll just grab that strap and we'll loop it around. Now with it in this position, I just want to point out that we can get into our rear hatch. As you can see we can open it all the way up, and it doesn't come in contact with our carrier. Now this does fold one more time for convenient storage. We'll just undo the pin here. Pull it out. Rotate it up. Realign the holes. Now let's take a few more measurements. Our closest point hasn't changed. It's still from the portion of our shank here to our bumper. Overall with it folded up, we've got about 11", and then our ground clearance back here, we're looking at about 17". One more quick thing, our carrier's held in place by a pin and clip, however the pin and clip is not included. You can find it on our website, at part number PC3. That's going to complete our test fit of the CarPod Walled Folding Cargo Carrier. Part number M2205 on our 2012 Cadillac SRX. This is our test course. Let's start with the slalom. This shows side to side action, such as turning corners, or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting action, such as hitting curbs, potholes, road debris, or uneven pavement. Last of all, the solid speed bumps. This shows up and down action, such as driving through a parking lot or parking garage, or driving in and out of a driveway.
