Review of the Yakima Roof Rack on a 2017 Ford F-150

Today in our 2017 Ford F150, we're going to be test fitting the Yakima round cross bar roof rack system consisting of part number Y00409. These are the 58" cross bars. Part number Y00146. These are the baseline towers for the Yakima cross bars. Part number Y03536, and this is the round bar SL adaptor for the Yakima baseline towers, and part number Y06122, and this is the fit kit for the Ford F150. The Yakima cross bar roof rack system is great for carrying a wide variety of objects on top of your roof while freeing up space inside your truck and truck bed. It can also serve as an extension piece if you have a ladder rack to carry your ladders, your lumber, or whatever it is you're hauling.

It can also carry cargo baskets, cargo boxes, and ski and snowboard carriers as well. It has a combine carrying capacity of 165 pounds, although you always want to double check with your vehicle's manual to make sure your roof can withstand those weights. On the ends of our towers, we do have knock outs that you can replace with Yakima same key systems so once you install this roof rack onto your roof, it's going to be secure to your roof as well. Now that we've gone over some of the features of the roof rack system, let's go ahead and show you how it installs. We already have it partially assembled on our table here, and we'll finish up by showing you how the other baseline tower goes to the other end of our crossbar. We'll first take our adaptor piece from out adapter kit. It juts pushes into place like so.

You have to wait til you hear those clicks. Then we'll take our round adaptor, place that in the center, and then take our included tool. Flipping it upside down, we'll tighten it just loosely for now so it stays in place. Let me actually make sure it's in there, like so. Slide down to the end of our bar. Next, we'll take a measurement so we'll get the proper spacing between our baseline towers so we can put it onto the roof of our vehicle.

You'll find this measurement in your instructions. We may have to make some adjustments here. Looks about right. Now we can finish tightening our tower down to our bar. When it's completely tightened down you hear those clicks so you know u haven't over tightened it. One thing I'd also like to point out is you see how these three notches on the inside here.

This is going to determine the angle of how this is going to sit on the roof of your vehicle. You'll find this in your instructions as well, and we already have it set to the proper location. Just make sure that it's the same on the other tower. Next we'll take part of our fit kit here, the landing pad and just push that on like so. Then we'll take our end cap which is also included. Install it on the end. So we'll just set this in place for now, not in necessarily the exact spot it's going to be sitting, but in the general vicinity, because we're going to be measuring from center of the bar to center of the bar for our cross bar spread which you can also find in your instructions. One thing I'd like to point out is you will notice that I didn't put any of the clamps on yet. This is kind of a nice feature about this. You can set this on without having to worry about scratching up your car with the clamps hanging down. Now with everything measure out, we can open up our rear doors and start installing our clamps. We'll just insert our clamps like so, and you see how they actually kind of float above where they need to be. To put them down in the right position, we go to this screw here. Turn to the right. That will lower it to where it needs to be. Then we'll go to the center screw here and just snug it up against the door frame. We'll repeat this on the driver's side as well. That tightened down, our final step is to put our end caps on, then we're ready to load up our gear and hit the road. They just push into place like so, and now we're ready to go. And there you have it for the Yakima round bar roof rack system on our 2017 Ford F150.
