How to Install the Yakima LongArm Bed Extender on a 2016 Ford F-150

Today on our 2016 Ford 150 supercab, we're gonna be doing a test it on the Yakima LongArm truck bed load extender, part number Y01149. The Yakima LongArm is gonna allow us to carry extended loads on our F150. It's gonna be perfect for those long ladders, lumber, kayaks, paddle boards, really anything that extends beyond our truck bed. From our bumper, we've added about 51" and from our tailgate, we've added about 32." It also has a weight capacity of 300 pounds. Here at the very back, we have a crossbar length of 60", and our ground clearance is about 36".I've gone ahead and taken off the ladder, so we can take a closer look. Now, here on the ends of the crossbar, it features multiple tie down points, you do have to provide your own straps.

Here at the base, it features various holes, so we can customize it to our load. With this position and our tailgate down, it extends our load inside of our truck bed. To adjust it, you can simply unscrew the knobs, pull it out and move it upward until it's where you need it to be.Once, you've got it set to where you want, just reinsert the bolt and put the knobs back in place. With it in this position, it's just about level with our truck bed rails. This setup is perfect for those truck bed racks.

The vertical position is the stowed position. Now, you do have the option to pick up a height extension for it with part number Y01150. This raises it up to the roof line of your truck, allowing you to use it with a truck bed roof rack to carry extended loads over your cab. Now, the crossbar itself does have a height adjustment, we've got three options, they're an inch and 3/8 apart, that way we can fine tune it to our load. One last measurement, here at the base, our ground clearance is about 19", and it installs into our 2" x 2" receiver. Now, it includes an anti-rattle bolt and clip.

By tightening up that anti-rattle bolt, it's gonna help remove all that rattle and play from our extender to make a nice solid ride for our load. As you can see, I'm shaking it and I'm actually shaking the entire vehicle. And that's gonna complete our test fit of the Yakima LongArm truck bed load extender, part number Y01149 on our 2016 Ford F150 supercab.
