Review of the Yakima Roof Basket on a 2019 Chevrolet Suburban

Adam: Hi everyone. Adam with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Yakima OffGrid roof cargo basket on our 2019 Chevrolet Suburban. So, we do have the smaller cargo basket up top, but Yakima does make another OffGrid roof basket that is going to be 62 inches long, but all the same measurements everywhere else. So, this OffGrid is going to be 44 inches long by 40 inches wide and seven inches tall. What sets this cargo basket apart from the others is going to be, we do have some nice bars inside our cargo basket, and that's going to be used for two different things. Some customers use it just to divide their bulky items, just to kind of get it a little bit more organized.

But others actually put some roof rack bike racks on top of these bars as well. Whatever you use it for, just go ahead and share it on the website. So, just let us know. Also, there is a couple more bars that you can purchase, if you would like to have a little bit more. This cargo basket is going to be made of a steel construction with a nice powder-coated finish, so it's going to look good and resist against rust and corrosion. Check your owner's manual to make sure that your vehicle can handle that kind of weight on your roof.

It also comes with a front fairing here, which is going to help keep down that wind noise that you get whenever you're going on the highway at high speeds, you hear that wind just hitting it. This way, it's going to at least just kind of divert around all the luggage that you have and maybe cut down a little bit of that wind resistance that you get.One of the unique features about this product is how it's strapped to your bars. So all you really need to do is you slide this out, and that flips up. This is going to adjust the tension of your strap. But this strap is actually steel, but it does have a rubber coating, so it's not going to harm your rails, but it's going to be just as strong as if it we're steel.

It's really easy. You just plop it on there and flip it over, and then this will lock that cap into place, just so it won't come undone. There is some locking cores sold separately that you can purchase just to give you peace of mind, making sure that this will not go anywhere whenever you leave it be.And later on down the road, if you realize that you could use a little bit more space on your basket, you don't have to go and buy a whole new OffGrid system. You can actually just buy the divider, and it will go where these red little marks here. It's going to insert in between there, and it's going to get you a lot more room to haul some cargo.

Another thing I like about this roof cargo basket is it has a lot of different points to tie stuff down too. I know a lot of the times whenever I have a bunch of stuff on my roof basket, when there's not a good spot to tie it down, it makes me a little bit nervous. This definitely has plenty, and you won't have a hard time finding the right amount of places to strap down your cargo.Well, everyone, thanks for tuning in and taking a look at the Yakima OffGrid roof cargo basket on our 2019 Chevrolet Suburban.
