How to Install a TrailerMate Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles on a 2007 Saturn Vue

Today on our 2007 Saturn Vue well be installing the Trailermate custom tail light wiring kit for towed vehicles, part number TM780035. Our first step will be opening up the rear cargo door. Then well remove the two fasteners that secure the tail light assembly to the vehicle. Now as we remove the tail light assembly be careful not to break the alignment tabs underneath. Next well remove the manufacturers wiring from the tail light assembly. Pull back on the locking tab and remove the connector.

Well sit the tail light assembly aside for reinstallation later. Next well need to make connection with our new Trailermate T-connector to the manufacturers wiring and then to the tail light assembly. For this application well remove some fasteners in order to make room to access the wiring between the bumper cover and the sheet metal or body of the vehicle. Well remove the two fasteners here for the bumper cover behind the tail light assembly. Then well remove the five pushpin fasteners in the wheel well so that were able to pull it back and reach inside.

Next well go ahead and take our yellow wire connector and feed it up behind the drivers side tail light assembly. Now well connect the manufacturers wire to our new Trailermate T-connector. Next well take the white wire with the pre-attached ring terminal, the ground wire for our new four pull wiring harness and attach it directly to the body of the vehicle using a self-tapping screw. Now with all the connections made here on the drivers side well go ahead and reinstall the drivers side tail light assembly, plug in the open end of our Trailermate connector into the tail light assembly and reinstalling the fasteners. First the two bumper cover fasteners and then the two fasteners to secure the tail light housing.

Next well go ahead and move over to the passenger side and remove the tail light assembly in the same manner in which we did the driver side. Now with our tail light assembly removed well go ahead and disconnect the manufacturers wiring and sit it aside. Next well get underneath the vehicle and start routing our wire over to the passenger side. For this application well be using a pull wire, or air tube or line as well be using a pull wire to feed our wire over to the passenger side through the bumper beam. Well take the pull wire, feed it through the tube, then attach the Trailermate connector to our air line with some black electrical tape.

Now as we have our wire pulled over to the passenger side we can see it wont be long enough. Well need to make some more room. To do this well remove the two fasteners securing the lower bumper cover to the bracket. This will allow us more access and length on the wire. Now with that done well go ahead and repeat the same steps over on the passenger side so that we can feed our wire up behind the passenger side tail light assembly. Now with the wire routed over to the passenger side and we have plenty of length we can go ahead and reinstall the fasteners to secure the bumper cover and wheel well. Now over on the passenger side well repeat the same process of removing the fasteners to gain access and routing our wire. Now with our wire fit up behind the tail light assembly well go ahead and connect it to the manufactures wire and then to our tail light assembly. Now we can go ahead and reinstall the bumper fasteners behind the tail light assembly and reinstall the tail light securing it with the fasteners. With the passenger side wiring completed well go ahead and reinstall all the remaining fasteners to secure the bumper cover and wheel well. Now with both tail light assemblies connected and secured well take our four pole wiring harness and route it up tot eh front of the vehicle to our wiring bracket. Remember when routing any of your wires to be careful to avoid moving components such as the steering suspension or excessive heat such as the exhaust. As we route our wire well be securing it with the black zip ties. Now weve completed routing our wire well go ahead and secure any excess wiring here to the backside of the cross member with some black zip ties. That completes securing the wire. To clean up our install look well go ahead and cut off the access from our zip ties. This will complete the install of the Trailermate custom tail light wiring kit for towed vehicles, part number TM780035, on our 2007 Saturn Vue.
