How to Install the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness on a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Chevrolet Traverse, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Kirt 00:00:05 T-connector vehicle wiring harness with the four pole slat trailer connector, part number C56394. Now, this is what your wiring is going to look like once you get it installed on your vehicle. As you can see, we're using a four poled bracket here that allows us to have a firm attachement point for our wiring. Now, if you don't want a bracket, you do have the option of coming down and around your hitch, and then we can use that dust cover just to hold it up and in place. Here's what our wiring kit is going to look like. This is going to be a very straightforward and easy installation for you to do. Basically, we have our factory connector right here.

It's located on the back of your vehicle. We'll show you where that's at. We're going to plug that in, and then the only thing we have to do is run up the length of wire over to where we want to use it, so around the receiver tube of our hitch. This gives us a four flat trailer connector on the rear of our vehicle, which we can use for our utility trailers, cargo carriers, or really for that matter any other trailer that has a four flat connector on it.Also with your kit you're going to have dust cover. This is going to allow you to protect your connection here.

So we're going to bring that down and over. Let's bring it around. This will help to keep out any moisture, any debris which might cause corrosion. Now, this first step in our installation is going to be to remove the rear cover here. It's just going to have the two tabs that you'll turn. We can pop that section down and that will come off for us.

Next thing we need to do is find our plug. It's going to be right in behind this panel, right up against the back of the vehicle. So you can reach in here and you should be able to get your hand on it right above your exhaust. Now it has a Christmas tree fastener or a push pun fastener, so typically if you just pull out on that we can get it to come down just like that. And you're going to pull down on the red tab, press in on the black tab, and wiggle it to separate.

You can see it's going to match our wiring connector. And we'll take our dielectric grease, get some in our socket there. Now we'll feed the four pole flat trailer connector from our plug side here over towards our hitch opening. We want to stay up nice and high. We want to go up over our brace here. That will keep us away from our exhaust area. All right, we'll just let that hang out there now. We'll put our plug together over here. And as we slide this together, you want to just listen for the click and you want to pull test it, and we can just lift that right back up in and take all of our slack out of the other side. Now, we're going to be installing a four pole bracket here, our customer's requested that just so he doesn't have to wrap it around his hitch or something like that. This is part number 18144. It will have the hardware provided to attach it to a bracket. Now, we'll be able to just pull our wiring in, tip it down, you see that's going to give us a nice, fixed location. The excess wire we'll just zip tie off. We're going to be using a little bit longer zip tie than what comes with the kit, just so we can get all the way around the hitch. Now as I get this put in place, I like to have the dust cover on it. Bring that in, tip it up so it's held, and we can put our cover on and keep it protected. As you can see with our wiring installed, we're still able to put our panel back on and keep everything nice and clean. For the test out our wiring, we're going to use Kirt 00:03:49 tester, part number I26. Just going to plug that in, and you can see the LED lights here flash as we go through the different lights. Now we'll start our test with our running lights. Now our left blinker. Our right blinker. And our brakes. Now with everything working properly, that's going to complete our installation of the Kirt T-connector vehicle wiring harness with the four pole flat trailer connector, part number C56394.
