How to Install the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness on a 2017 Kia Sedona

Today on our 2017 Kia Sedona we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Hopkins plug-in simple wiring harness for factory tow package with a four-pole flat trailer connector. That's going to be part number HM11143965. Here's what our wiring looks like once we have it installed. It is designed to stay on the outside of the vehicle so it will be close by our hitch whenever we hook up. It's going to provide us with a four-pole flat trailer connector so we can have all the required lights to safely get down the road like our tail lights, our turn signals, and our brake lights, and the included dust caps to make sure that we don't have any corrosion built up inside of our connector. It's going to keep all that dirt, debris and moisture out.

If you don't have a permanent mounting solution for your wiring, you can actually use the dust cap to attach it to our hitch. That way it'll keep all the excess wire up out of the way and keep it from dragging. One of the nicest things about our wiring is the fact that it's going to be plug and play. We're not going to have to cut or splice into any of our factory wiring at all. It's just going to have two simple plugs underneath on the driver's side. Now that we've seen the end result of our wiring let's show you how easy it is to get installed. To begin our installation we're going to come underneath the back of our Sedona, and we're going to come to the driver's side right behind the wheel.

If we look inside this area, we'll find two plugs. Now your Sedona may have a panel that goes right here. We had to remove ours for the hitch install, so if you need to pull that panel down to get access it's going to have plastic push pins going around the outside, but these two plugs are going to have covers on them, and on the smaller black one there's going to be a little tab here on the end. We'll squeeze that tab, and we can pull the plug out. The one up top here is actually going to be towards the outside, so you can just kind of just reach behind it, and we'll pull the plug out, just going to have that small tab right there, you just squeeze and pull the cover out.We can grab our mirror wiring harness, and our connectors are going to match up with the ones that are in this area right here.

We'll take the black one, line it up, make sure it locks into place, and we can plug the gray one in, just remember to put that tab towards the outside. You then want to route your four-pole wire towards the center of the hitch so that our wiring will be close when we hook up. You're also going to want to secure the converter box here using some zip ties. We'll just tie all the excess wire behind the fascia here or to the hitch. I took a few zip ties, and I zip tied my converter box to the existing wiring back here, and I routed the four-pole, so I came towards the back, and I actually started routing it behind this plastic panel and routed it until it came out right by the center of my hitch. We can take the included dust cover, and we just slide it on, be a couple of ridges on there, just want to make sure that cover sits in-between those two, so it won't come back off, and when we're not using it we can use the dust cover to keep the excess wire from dragging.

I got my tester hooked up so we can make sure that all the circuits are working properly. If you need one of these four-pole testers, you can pick one up here at etrailer.com using part number I26. We can see that my tail lights are coming on as well as the left turn signal, the right turn signal, and the brakes. All we have left to do now is hook up to our trailer and hit the road. That'll finish up your look at the Hopkins plug-in simple wiring harness for factory tow package part number HM11143965 on our 2017 Kia Sedona.
