All right. Today in our 2013 Ford van, we're going to install part number C56020 from Curt. This is the Curt T-connector vehicle wiring harness. To start off our install, we're going to have to remove the tail lights. There are four screws in each tail lights that we have to remove. We'll do this on both sides.
Now, the way we're going to install a wiring harness is that we're going to need to run it to the outside down towards the hitch. In this particular application for the wire harness is intended to be installed inside the van where not being used but in this case, this wire harness will be upgraded into a different connector. We'll go ahead and run our wires t the outside. To do that, we'll go ahead and drill a 1/4-inch hole in the bottom of the pocket behind the tail light. We'll drill through some foam and go through one layer of material. We have a second piece of sheet metal below that but we don't need to drill through that because we can get access from the side from underneath.
We'll go ahead and drill on both sides. We'll go ahead and hold up our wire so we know where approximately where to cut our wire. Once we cut our wire, we're going to use this scrap piece of wire and ran it to the hole we drilled and out the side on the bottom. Then we'll use that to pull our wire harness back up through. Once we have our wires pulled up through, we'll go ahead and reconnect our wires using some butt connectors. We'll go ahead tape and secure them and plus we'll go down the wire just a little bit longer and then go ahead and wrap it extra heavy to protect the wire because we'll go ahead and use that electrical tape that kind of has a grommet to back to go back to your sheet metal and help hold it in place.
After our wires are reconnected, we need to go ahead and connect it to the tail light and the wiring harness.Once those wires are connected, we can go ahead and reinstall the tail light on the passenger side then we'll go below the van and route the four-pole wire harness over to the center of the hitch. We'll go ahead and run it through the bumper structure and past the spare tire. We'll go ahead and basically repeat the same process over on our driver's side. Go ahead and cut it to length. We'll go ahead and run our wire up and just go ahead and pull the wires through.
Once again, we'll go ahead and add our 2 butt connectors to make a new connection and tape up the wires. Then we'll go ahead and make our connection again behind the tail light. Then we go ahead and put that tail light simply back together. Then we'll go back underneath the van and go ahead and zip tight, secure the wires as needed. It still has excess wire under the passenger side. We end up using a wire loom, part number, A0500 to take up some of the excess wire. With that, that will finish our install of part number, C56020 from Curt on our 2013 Ford van. .
