How to Install a Trailer Wiring Harness Adapter on a 2007 Hyundai Entourage

Today on this 2007 Hyundai Entourage, we're going to install part number 30717. This is the adapter four pole to seven pole vehicle and trailer connector from Tow Ready. Here's our four pole to seven pole adapter, we'll install it on our Hyundai. Our Hyundai already had a seven pole connector on there, but it got damaged pretty bad, so it's already been removed and we just got it down to the bare wires. These are wires from our brake controller and our ground and our reverse light. Here's our four pole wiring harness that was part of our original install. Let's put our new seven pole into place.

Our bracket has seen better days, but it's actually the right height now so it won't get damaged any more. This plug does not come with any hardware, so you probably want to venture to your local hardware store and get some material to fit in there. We're just using a regular machine screw with a flat washer and a star washer and a nut. Basically any combination or a lock washer with this nut will work fine too. Now that we have our seven pole mounted to our bracket, we can start routing our wires. We're simply going to go over the top of the hitch.

We'll leave our bare wires alone for now and we'll put our four pole. What we'll do is connect these two together, but we're using dielectric grease to help protect the contacts. The grease we're using is part number 11755 from Lubrimatic, electrical contact grease. This will be a semi-permanent connection so we'll use some electrical tape to help secure it. We'll just work with one circuit at a time. First we'll work with our light green wire here.

This is actually a lead going to our reverse light, which not too many trailers use, but this one does. That's going to connect yellow on our separate wires. Next we'll deal with these two wires here. This is the two wires that come from a ETB7 kit. Our black wire is going to be to our power supply and our white wire is going to be output from our brake controller. For our install, we'll be matching black to black for our total power supply.

Our white wire, this wire is for our brake controller output and that will go to blue. We have a single white wire here that we know is ground because we just simply traced it back up to where it came out and ran to the ground on the vehicle. That's going to hook up to our white wire here with the ring terminal. There's not much in the body here that you can drill to without going to the interior and have it sticking through, so that's why there's an extension here. We'll just cut off the ring terminal, use an extra butt connector and connect up. With all our connections made, we'll secure them with some more electrical tape and then we'll reattach our wires and secure them to the hitch. With that, that will finish it for our install of part number 30717 from Tow Ready on our 2007 Hyundai Entourage. .
