How to Install a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2006 Toyota Highlander

Today on this 2006 Toyota Highlander, we're going to install part number 118248from Tow Ready. The first step is to go ahead and remove the interior panels to get toour wiring harness. We'll have to remove the access panels, the threshold, and trunk floorpanels and trays. We'll go ahead and locate the port on the driver's side. Somevehicles have a cap. We'll remove the cap if necessary, and then we'll go ahead andinstall the T1 wiring harness.

There'll be an existing ground stud near the connector.Well use that for our ground. We'll go ahead and find a location to mount ourmodule, and we'll clean off an area of the sheet metal and attach it. We need to go up to the fuse panel and install the fuse at the towing location, then we'llinstall the 10-amp fuse that comes with the kit. At this point we can goahead and re-install all the interior components. When we're not towing a trailer, thewiring harness will stay inside the vehicle.

To use it, we'll go ahead and pull it out ofthe compartment, and then we'll go ahead and pull it out the vehicle and shut the hatchon it. The door seal's thick enough where it won't hurt anything, just make sure youstay away from the latch in the center. That will finish off our install of part number 118248 from Tow Ready, on our2006 Toyota Highlander. .
