How to Install a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

Today on this 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix were going to install part number 56076 from Curt. The first thing we need to do is go ahead and remove the rear trim panel at the threshold. We have to remove the interior liner to get access to hardware that holds the taillights in place so we can remove the taillights. These are the three fasteners we have to remove. Well pull the light away, and then well disconnect the wire harness. Well pull up on this tab right here and then pull it out.

Were done with the drivers side for now. Lets go ahead and repeat the same process over on the passengers side. Well take the four pole end and drop it down between the body and the bumper cover on the drivers side. Well go ahead and hook up one half of our electrical harness with the yellow wire. Well hook that up to the factory harness.

Then well take the other half of the connector with the green wire, route that below and around to the other side. When we route this wire we want to make sure we stay away from the exhaust. Then well come back up to the wire harness and plug it in there. With our wire connections made well go ahead and take the white wire with the ring terminal and ground that to the sheet metal. Then we can go ahead and reinstall the taillights and also the interior components.

Well go back below the vehicle and secure the wires. To help secure our wires in place were going to use a couple loom clamps, part number A0500. Then well go ahead and add the cover for the four pole and well use that to secure it to the hitch. With that, that will finish it for our install of part number 56076 from Curt on our 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix.
