How to Install a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2001 Dodge Dakota

Today on our 2001 Dodge Dakota, we're going to be installing the tow ready T-One vehicle wiring harness with 4-pole flat trailer connector. Part Number 118329. We're going to begin by pointing out the connection points that we'll be tying our wiring harness in with. We'll begin over here on the passenger side. Your connection point is right up here. Now over here on the driver side, we'll be connecting in right here. We're going to begin right here on the passenger side where we'll need to push in on this little tab right here.

This is the locking tab that keeps the connector together. Go ahead and squeeze in on that and gently pull the connection apart. Go ahead and repeat the same process over on the driver side. Over here on the passenger side, we'll be connecting in the green and white wire T-connection. Go ahead and line up the proper sides, slide them together making sure we hear the locking tab click. Next, we'll go ahead and take the yellow and brown wire connector. Go ahead and route it over here to our driver side where we'll again repeat the same process for tying in with the factory wiring harness. Next we'll go ahead and take our 4 flat in.

Route it up and over our hitch where we'll secure it off here to the safety chain loop. We'll then use a few zip ties to secure up any excess wiring. Now that we have the wire secured, we're going to go ahead and add a piece of half inch wire loom at the end of our wire harness right near the four flat. Wire loom that we're going to be using is part number 459075-1 and you can purchase this by the foot. We'll be using approximately one foot of it to help protect our wire. Then go ahead and take a little electrical tape.

Tape it off. Go ahead and add one more zip tie right here to help secure the wiring and keep it from being damaged. Now that all of our wire's secure, we'll go back and trim off any excess zip tie. We'll go ahead and take our test light. We'll test the 4 flat out. We'll connect our ground here to the open prong, which is the white wire.

We'll then test our running lights where we'll touch the brown wire. The left turn where we'll touch the yellow wire. Right turn, we'll touch the green wire. For brakes, we'll touch the yellow or the green wire. As you can see here, all of our functions are working just fine. With that, that'll conclude our installation of our tow ready, T-One vehicle wiring harness. Part number 118329 on our 2001 Dodge Dakota. .
