Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Acura RDX, we'll be having a look at, and showing you how to install, the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number C13130.Here's what our hitch looks like installed. Now, what's great about this hitch is that the only part you'll see hanging down is the actual receiver opening itself. The body of the hitch is completely hidden behind your fascia, giving us a nice clean look behind our RDX.Welded on the back of our receiver, we have this nice collar, which helps reinforce the opening, and gives us a nice finished look. Welded onto the bottom of our receiver is our tubular steel safety chain loops, which is the attachment point for our safety chains from our trailer. These have a fairly decent opening, so we shouldn't have much problem hooking on most safety chains to them.On the side of our receiver, you'll find the industry standard 5/8" diameter hitch pin hole to secure any of our hitch-mounted accessories. You can pick up a pin and clip on our website as part number PC3.This hitch features a 600 pound tongue weight reading, which is the amount forcing down, and a 4,000 pound max gross trailer weight reading, which is the amount it can pull.
You'll want to make sure you consult with the owner's manual of your RDX and not exceed the lift the vehicle is capable of, or the hitch. Go by whichever number is lowest. Also, when you're using this hitch for a non-trailer application, such as with a bike rack or a cargo carrier, Curt does require the use of a stabilization strap to help support the load. We have one of those available on our website as part number 18050.Now for a few measurements to better assist you in choosing any hitch mounted accessories you may need, such as a ball mount, bike rack, or a cargo carrier. You're looking at about 12-1/2" from the ground to the top of the 2" receiver opening, and about 6" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rearmost part of the back bumper.
And now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed. To begin our install, we need to locate our attachment points. We'll find those at each one of our frame rails. We'll have a look at our driver's side. Our passenger side is a mirror image, so everything that we do on the driver's side, we'll repeat over on the passenger side. So, looking up at our frame rail, we see a weld nut right here towards the very back of the frame rail. That is a metric weld nut.
That's where our metric bolt will go. This hole here is our other attachment point. We'll use a handle nut and a standard bolt in that hole. Now for our weld nut, you may need to clean out the threads in there from dirt, grime, rust . depending on where you live and the type of conditions that are on the road. Just spray a little lubricant in there.
You can use a wire brush, which we have available on our website. It's part number 814092. Run it in and out of the threads. This will clean up any debris that's inside, and make it easier for your bolt to go into it.Now we'll raise our hitch into place, and we'll hold it with the metric bolt and a conical tooth washer. The teeth will face away from the bolt head, up towards the hitch. So now we'll get an extra set of hands, raise the hitch over the exhaust, and secure it with the metric bolts.Go over the exhaust, line it up with our hole, and secure it into place. Now we'll take our handle nut, go through the access hole, line it up with the hole, and insert our 1/2" bolt, and thread it into the handle nut.Okay, now we'll use a 19 mm socket or a 3/4" socket to tighten up our hardware. Our 3/4" bolt head on the standard bolt is the standard equivalent of a 19 mm on our metric bolt. Now we will torque all of our hardware, the amounts specified in the instructions. And that completes our look at, and showing you how to install, the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number C13130, on this 2017 Acura RDX.
