How to Install the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch on a 2016 Toyota Prius v

Speaker 1: Today in this 2016 Toyota Prius-V, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Class 1 Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 24967. Here's what our hitch looks like installed. Now one of the first things you'll notice about this hitch is that it's completely hidden behind our fascia. The only part that you'll see is the receiver itself, hanging down.On the side of our receiver, you'll find our industry standard half inch diameter hitch pinhole, to secure your hitch mounted accessories. You can pick up a pin and clip separately on our website, that's part number PC2.Welded on the bottom of our receiver are rolled steel safety chain loops. And what's nice about these, is that even if you have a large diameter safety chain hook, such as this one on your trailer, you'll still be able to hook on and clip it off, very easily. This hitch features a 200 pound max ton weight rating, which is the amount forcing down.

And a 2,000 pound, max gross trailer weight rating. Which is the amount I can pull. You wanna make sure you do consult with the owner's manual in your Prius-V, and not exceed what the vehicle's rated for. Go by whichever number is less. And one thing that I like about this hitch, compared to other options in the market, is that its design does conceal what completely behind our fascia. But that doesn't require any modifications to the vehicle, in order to conceal it.And now for a few measurements to better assist you in choosing any hitch mounted accessory you may need, such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier. You're looking at about 12 and a quarter inches from the ground to the top of the receiver opening.

And about 5 inches from the center of the hitch pinhole to the rear most part of the back bumper. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed. To begin our install, we'll be on the driver's side of our vehicle and we need to remove our factory tie down hook. In order to do that, we'll have two 17 millimeter bolts that have to come out.Now on our passenger side, we need to lower down our exhaust a little bit. In order to do that, we'll have an exhaust hanger like this, at the back of the muffler, and one at the front. It's a good idea to take some spray lubricant, lubricate your hangers a little bit. Then you can use a pry bar and pry off the hanger.

Then we can lower the exhaust down. Now we'll remove our exhaust hanger bracket on the passenger side, with two 17 millimeter bolts here as well. We'll have two fascia attachment tabs that go to the frame of our vehicle. They're held in place with a plastic clip. The way these clips work, if you use a flathead screwdriver and get underneath it and pry the center section down a little bit. Then you can come in with a trim handle tool, or just keep using your flathead screwdriver, and remove the pushpin.

And that'll allow us to pull the fascia back. Now our hitch will be secured with the factory bolts I removed, going into the original location. Now with an extra set of hands, we'll pull back on our fascia and raise the hitch in a position. On the passenger side, we'll place our exhaust hanger under the hitch and secure it and the hitch to the vehicle, with the factory bolts. Now we'll just tighten down our bolts. And now we'll torque our hardware to the amount specified in the instructions. Now we can raise our exhaust back up and reinstall our hangers. We went ahead and used the provided zip ties per the instructions, to secure our fascia tab, to the hitch. We did this on both sides. And now to complete look at in showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Class 1 Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 24967, on this 2016 Toyota Prius-V.
