How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2016 Dodge Durango

Speaker 1: Today on our 2016 Dodge Durango, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install Draw-Tite class three max frame trailer hitch receiver, part number 75713. This is what our hitch looks like when it's installed. You can see it has a nice round cross-tube design that fits with the contour of your vehicle. This is going to be a class three. It's going to be 2 inch by 2 inch. It's going to fit a wide variety of accessories.

It's going to have a 5/8ths inch hitch pin hole. This back hole here is going to be for a J pin stabilization device. What that's going to do . it's going to take all the shake and play out of any of your hitch mounted accessories. It's going to have plate style safety chain loops, giving you great access for many different sized safety chain hooks. It has a pre-welded bracket to fit many different style wiring harnesses. Now, this hitch is going to have a 900 pound max tongue weight.

The max tongue weight is going to be the amount of force pushed down on the bottom of the receiver tube. It's going to have a 6,000 pound max gross trailer weight. What that is the trailer and load included. Now, you can use weight distribution with this hitch. The max tongue weight is going to be the same.

It's going to be 900 pounds, and the max trailer weight is going to be 7,500 pounds. I do recommend checking your owner's manual to make sure your vehicle can withstand that amount of weight. Now, we will give you a couple measurements to help you when deciding on any hitch mounted accessory you may need, such as a bike rack, ball mount, or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost part of the bumper will be about 2 inches. From the ground to the top innermost part of the receiver tube will be about 14 and a quarter inches. Now, let's show you how to get this installed. To begin our installation, we're going to have to lower our spare tire.

So we're going to come inside here, and right underneath this cap is the lever to lower your spare tire. Now, you can use your tools that are included with your jack. I'm just going to use a tool that we have here at the shop. Now that we have our spare tire down, it's not necessary that you remove it all the way, but we're going to go ahead and take it down for better viewing. Now that we have our spare tire down, we're going to remove these two bolts from the driver's side, and we're going to do the same thing on the passenger's side. We're going to be using a 13/16ths socket. And you want to make sure you retain those, because you're going to reinstall them with the hitch. Now, with an extra set of hands, we'll go ahead and put our hitch into place. Now, you want to make sure on your passenger's side here you go back behind the spare tire heat shield. We're going to use the same hardware that we took out of the holes. We're going to use those and put our hitch in place. Now that we have our hardware in place, we'll go ahead and tighten everything down, and we're going to repeat that same process on the other side. Now that we have everything tightened down, we're going to torque it down to the specifications listed in the instructions. And we're going to repeat that process on the other side. Now that we have our hitch in place, the next thing we're going to do is put our spare tire back in place. And that'll do it for the Draw-Tite class three max frame trailer hitch receiver, part number 75713, on our 2016 Dodge Durango.
