How to Install a Trailer Hitch on 2014 Kia Sorento

Today, on our 2014 Kia Sorento, were going to install part number C13152 from Curt. This is what the hitch looks like once its installed on the vehicle. Next, well give you some measurements to help you out in selecting accessories such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground, it will be about 13-1/2 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper, it will be about 4-7/8 inches. Now, well go ahead with the hitch installed.

First of we need Laurice spare tire remove it out of our way. The spare tire will be reinstalled when were done. Next, we have to remove three rubber exhaust hangers on the muffler. Well spray them down some lubricants and go ahead and push them, and fry them off. Now, we have to remove plastic under body panel from the passenger side and driver side frame rears.

There are three plastic screws on the passenger side and four in drivers side. Theres also two snap on clips going up further into the body, lets just unclip studs are hanging down from the body work. Well go ahead and set those aside for now. Now, at this point we can go ahead and start installing our hitch. First of therell be four thread of holes in the bum of frame that well clean out first.

Were going to spray now some lubricant and clean up with toothbrush using part number 814092. Initially, well use these holes to hold out our hitch. Well get a set out of hands, well go ahead and install the hitch up against the frame, and then install the 12mm bolts and concrete tooth washers. Now, were going to install our hardware, were going to make sure the teeth and the concrete tooth washer are always facing up towards the hitch. Well loosen and install these fasteners for now.

Now, on the side of the frame, therell be two more fasteners we have to work in. Were working on the driver side first, there are two long carriage bolts, well run those on the outside edge of the frame towards the inside, it holds the existing holes on both sides. Once we have our bolt through, well make sure its fitted all the way in if it installed lock clutch nut on the other side. Now, well repeat the same process over on the passenger side, however, theres a spacer plate that has to be installed on the outside edge of passenger side frame rail. Its a black of a piece of metal with two round slots in it. Well go ahead and install our hardware through spacer, if it in two existing hole of the frame and through the other side of the hitch, and then two more locking clutch nuts. If all our hardware installed, we can go ahead and tighten down the bolts and then torque them down to specified instructions. Now, if one bolt on the passenger side does leave it up struck it by a small plastic pin hanging down, we can simply cut it as needed to get us clearance to the passenger and tighten it down. Once the hitch is fully installed, we can go ahead and reinstall the plastic panels. Well reinstall the fasteners, and then we can go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. With that, that will finish it for an install part number C13152 from Curt, on our 2014 Kia Sorento.
