How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2014 Dodge Durango

Today on our 2014 Dodge Durango we'll be installing the CURT Hitch, part number C13182. This is what our hitch will look like once it is installed. Next we'll give you a couple of measurements to assist your selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 4-1/4 inches. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 11-3/4 inches. This will assist your selecting accessories such as a ball mount, bike rack or cargo carrier. Now we'll go ahead with the installation. We'll first go ahead and lower and remove the spare tire.

While it's not a requirement to install this hitch, it'll make it a lot easier. With our spare tire now out of the way, we'll go ahead and point out the attachment points. There are a total of four attachment points, two on each side. These attachment points are well nuts built into the frame by the manufacturer and also have manufacturer's hardware already in the well nuts. Note the caulking here above our attachment points and some applications will be very thick and need to be trimmed. It's not so in this case, so we'll go ahead and put our hitch in position.

We'll need to go ahead and remove the manufacturer's bolts but we'll hang on them as we'll use them to install the hitch. Once we have the four bolts out of the way, we're ready to go ahead and put our hitch in place. Note: It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install these fasteners. Put the passenger's side up past the heat shield first and then bring the driver's side into position. We'll reinstall the manufacturer's bolts finger tight until we have them all in place. Now we can go ahead and tighten them down. Next we'll torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with our hitch secured in torque specifications, we can go ahead and reinstall the spare tire and we're ready to hit the road. That does it for the install of the CURT Two-inch Receiver Tube Hitch, part number C13182 on our 2014 Dodge Durango.
