How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2012 Nissan NV 3500

Today on our 2012 Nissan NV 3500, we're going to take a look at, and show you how to install the Draw-Tite Max-Frame custom trailer hitch receiver. This is a class 3 hitch. Part number is 75715. Here is what our hitch is going to look like installed. It's really nice looking hitch. It's going to have the squared cross tube that's gonna go all the way across. It kinda beefs up the back of the NV here.

The reinforcement collar around the end is a nice rounded edge to it and it sits inside of the outside edge of our bumper. It's gonna be just inside little bit there. Your not going to worry about banging your knee on it or anything when your trying to get into the van. This is a class three hitch so we have a 2 inch by 2 inch receiver tube opening. This is going to allow us to carry up to 7500 pounds of gross trailer weight, which is the total of our trailer and then everything that we have loaded up. It is going to offer a tung weight rating of 11,025 pounds.

It's going to be the maximum downward force we can put here at the receiver tube opening. Now, if we switch in the weight distribution, the gross trailer weight rating is gonna go up to ten thousand pounds. Whereas our tung weight rating is going to go down to a thousand, so you'll want to keep that in mind. Of course, you do want to check the owner manual of the NV3500, make sure it can handle those kinds of loads. If not, you'll want to go off of whichever of those numbers are the lowest. Now, this hitch offers a dual pin set up.

The pin hole is here in the rear, that's our 5/8 pin hole. That's what we want to use for securing everything. The smaller diameter pin hole that we have here in the front, that's for use in conjunction with the larger pin hole with the J-pen 00:01:33 stabilization system. Safety chain connection are really nice and large. No matter the size the of hook that we want to connect there, we should have no issues getting that all connected.

Pitch pin hole here, it's gonna have decent amount of room on either side. You should be able to use whatever hitch accessory you'd like to use there, as far as anti rattle bolts, pins and clips, and things like that. Now, a couple of measurements that your going to find helpful in selecting your ball mount bike rack, or even hitch cargo carrier, will be from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, we've got about 17 1/4 inches. Then, from the center of our hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of our bumper, it's about 3. Now, installation of the hitch is gonna be really simple. We're gonna have 4 attachment points on each side. Two grouped together here on the very back side of the frame rout. If we'll come just ahead of there, we're gonna have two more here and here. Now, these are well nuts that are already in the frame, so we're just gonna have bolts have bolts that go through our hitch into them. We want to be sure to clean these out. Make sure that there's no debris, or buildup, in those threads. We're just using a nylon tube brush here. This is part number 814092,. If you don't already have one, just pick one up. We'll get this side cleaned out and we'll head over to the other side where we can do the exact same thing. With those cleaned out we're going to raise our hitch into position. It's a good idea to get yourself an extra set of hands. We'll take the bolts that are gonna come with the hitch . These are gonna have some red lock tight already on them and also a washer on there. You want to make sure they got the washer. Then you just align the hitch with the existing holes. You want to thread one of our bolts up in there and get it started. Make sure you get a lot of good turns on it. Four or five six turns. Then that hitch will just come down. It'll just rest on there while we get all of the other ones going. Now we are going to take a quick look to make sure they we have our hitch centered with our vehicle. Then we'll snug down all eight of our fasteners. Now we'll need to look into the instructions and torque them down to the specifications listed there. That will complete today's installation of the Draw-Tite Max-Train trailer hitch receiver. Part number 75715 on our 2012 NV 3500.Speaker 2: You can find this, and everything else, at etrailer.com. What's up man.
