How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2012 Kia Sorento

Today on our 2012 Kia Sorento, we'll install a draw-tite hitch part number 75684. This is what a hitch looks like once it's in place. Next, we'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 4 and a half inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 12 inches. This will help assist you in selecting accessories such as a draw bar, a bike rack or a cargo carrier.

Now, let's go ahead with installation. Before we install the hitch, we'll go ahead and point out our attachment points. There are a total of 4 attachment points: two on each side. It'll be the rear two most weldnuts built into the manufacturer's frame. Now, before we attempt to install the hitch, let's go ahead and clean out the weldnuts in the frame as it make it much easier to install our hardware if we clean up the dust starting to breed that builds up over time.

Using a little spray lubricant, and a half inch nylon tube brush part number 814092, we can thoroughly clean the threads out. You can also take one of the new 10mm bolts and go ahead thread it in finger tight just to make sure that it gonice and smoothly. Alright. Now, with all the weldnuts cleaned up, we're ready to go ahead and install the hitch. It's good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install your hardware.

We'll be using the new 10mm nuts and the conical toothed washers with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch that are provided with our install kit. With our driver's side installed, we'll go ahead and repeat the same process on the passenger's side. Now, we can go ahead and tighten down all 4 fasteners. With that completed, we can now go and torque the specifications as indicated in the instructions. That'll complete the install of our draw-tite hitch part number 75684 on our 2012 Kia Sorento..

Jeff

your video is easy to understand. what to do if the holes on my Kia Sorento frame are slightly too small for the 10mm bolts supplied with the hitch? yes all 4. figured Id install this in the morning, but now turning into a major project.

It is not uncommon for the vehicle weld nuts to be gunked up with dirt and road debris, thus making the installation of the mounting bolts difficult. The mounting bolts for this hitch are M10 x 1.25 x30mm. 48999
