How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

Today on our 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe well be installing the Draw Tite hitch, part number 36511. Next well go ahead and give you a couple measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper is three and a half inches. From the top of the inside of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 13 inches. This will assist you with selecting accessories such as a bike rack or cargo carrier. First before we install the hitch well go ahead and point out the attachment points.

There are total of four attachment points. These will be weld nuts on the bottom of the frame rail, two on each side. Before we attempt to install the hitch well first go ahead and clean off the weld nuts. Using a little spray lubricant and a half inch nylon tube brush, part number 814092, well thoroughly clean the threads out from any rust, dust, dirt or debris buildup. Note that in extreme cases you may need to use a thread tap in order to clean out the weld nuts.

Now with the weld nut cleaned out well go ahead and take one of the new fasteners and thread it into the weld nut to make sure it will go nice and easily. Now well go ahead and repeat the same process for the other three attachment points. Next were ready to go ahead and install the hitch. To install the hitch well be using the new 10 mm bolt and seven-sixteenths conical tooth washer. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch.

Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install the fasteners. Well feed the passengers side up over the exhaust and then bring the drivers side into position. Well install each fastener finger tight until we have them all installed. Now well go ahead and tighten the, down. Next well torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions.

That will complete the install of our Draw Tite hitch, part number 36511 on our 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe.
