How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2011 Cadillac SRX

Today on our 2011 Cadillac SRX well be installing the Draw-Tite hitch, part number 75682. This is what our hitch will look like once its in place. Next well go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you when selecting accessories for your new hitch such as a draw bar, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper is 3 inches. From the top of the inside of the receiver tube to the ground is 17 inches. Now lets go ahead with the installation.

First well need to remove the rear fascia panel. To do this well remove the two screws securing it in position. Go ahead and swing it down and release the plastic fasteners. Next well need to remove the rear fascia brackets. There are two, one on the driver and one on the passenger side.

Each one is secured with three fasteners, two plastic push pins and one nut. To remove the plastic push pins well pry out on the center section and then remove the entire fastener. With both removed here on the driver side well then go ahead and remove the nut and then the bracket, sitting all the hardware and bracket aside as it will be reinstalled later. Now well go ahead and repeat the same process on the passenger side. Next well go ahead and identify the attachment points.

There are a total of six attachment points. Two on the inside of each frame rail, driver and passenger side, and two on the cross member or bumper beam. Each one of these attachment points are weld nuts built into the structure of the vehicle by the manufacturer. Before we attempt to install the hitch well first clean out the threads of the weld nuts to make sure they go nice and easily. To clean out the weld nut well go ahead and spray each one of them with some spray lubricant and then use a half inch nylon tube brush, part number 814092, to thoroughly clean the threads.

Quick tech tip I recommend you take one of the new 12 millimeter bolts and thread it into the weld nut to make sure itll go nice and easily. Now that weve got each one cleaned out were ready to go ahead and install the hitch. Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install the fasteners. Well be securing the hitch to with this new 12 millimeter bolt and half inch conical tooth washer, with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch. Well put the hitch up into position, being careful to avoid the manufacturers wiring on the inside of the driers side frame rail. Once we have all the fasteners in position finger tight well go ahead and run them down. Next well go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with the hitch secured and torqued to specifications we can go ahead and reinstall the fascia brackets. Thatll complete the install of the Draw-Tite hitch, part number 75682, on our 2011 Cadillac SRX.
