How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2010 Mazda 5

Today, on our 2010 Mazda 5, were going to be installing Hidden Hitch part number 60841. Before we get started with our installation, were going to go over a couple of measurements thatll come in handy when selecting accessories for you hitch, like a bike rack or a cargo carrier. From the ground to the inside top of our receiver tube measures 12 -inches of hitch height, from the center of our hitch pin hole to the furthest point of our bumper measure 3 -inches.Now, lets get started with our install. The first thing we need to do is locate our pre-existing holes in our bumper structure. Were going to need to enlarge these with a half-inch drill bit. This is our block with our square hole and well be feeding that into the bumper tube, followed by our carriage bolt thats going to fit into our block.Next, we need to fish our bolts and blocks into the bumper structure.

Well take our fish wire; push it up through the newly opened hole and out the end of our bumper structure. Well fit the block over the end of our fish wire and push into the bumper. Then, well thread in our carriage bolt and pull it through. Well repeat the same procedure over on the passenger side.Next, were ready to fit the hitch up into position. It might be a good idea to get a second set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you get all your hardware started.

Well take our U-bolt and fit it around our vehicle tow hook. Well lift the hitch into place, fit on our lock washer and our nut onto the ends of the U-bolt. Well go ahead and get these finger tightened, so that the hitch can hang from it. Then, well fit the hitch over the carriage bolts that we fished in, fit over our conical tooth washer with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch and then a nut. Well get all these finger tight first; then, well come back and tighten them down.

With all of our hardware tightened down, the last thing we need to do is store the hardware according to specifications with the torque wrench. With that done, our install's complete on our Hidden Hitch part number, 60841 on our 2010 Mazda 5.
