Today on this 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt were going to install part number 60808 from Hidden Hitch. This is what the hitch looks like once its installed on the vehicle. Next well give you some measurements that will help you out in selecting some accessories, such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground the measurement will be 14 inches, and from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper will be four inches. Now well go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. The first thing were going to do is go ahead and lower the plastic panel thats behind the bumper structure.
The hitch installs in that same spot so we have to remove it. Next well go ahead and lower the exhaust. There will be two rubber hangers that we have to remove. Were going to spray them down with some lubricant and then go ahead and pry them off the hangers from the muffler. At this point it might be a good idea to get a strap to help pull the muffler out of the way as needed to do your work.
Next well go ahead and locate the three-eighths hole and the frame reinforcement bracket, which is at the end of the frame. Theres an oval hole and a round hole next to each other. Were going to mark and drill out our center for the round hole with a quarter inch drill bit and then follow it up with a half inch drill bit. Were done with our drivers side. Lets go ahead and repeat the same thing on the passengers side.
Now well go ahead and start installing hardware into the frame. With the hitch off well go ahead and show you how the hardware installs. From the inside of the frame out toward the bottom will be the block and carriage bolt, and then the conical tooth washer and nut. Youll make sure that the teeth on the conical tooth washer are pointing up toward the hitch. This is the arrangement for fasteners that go up toward the front.
The fasteners that will be installed on the bumper structure will be a little bit different. Instead of a conical tooth washer it will have a lock washer. Lets go ahead and install the hardware on the frame. Well take our bolt leader that comes with the kit, run it through the hole we just drilled out and out the oval access hole thats further up the frame. Well slide in our block, push in the frame and then thread in our bolt. Once we have everything inside the frame well go ahead and pull it out and out the hole. Well do this on both sides of the vehicle. Well go ahead and take the hitch and hold it up into place. Well have to push it up over the exhaust first and then run it through the bolts. Then well do the passengers side. Well install the conical tooth washer and nut. Then well go ahead and tighten the hardware down by hand to help hold the hitch up against the bumper structure. Now with our hitch in position well go ahead and drill out our remaining two holes. Once again well use a half inch bit to find our center and then well drill it out with a quarter inch drill bit, and then follow it up with the half inch drill. Well do this on both sides of the vehicle. Now well go ahead and install our hardware. On the passengers side well run our bolt leader through the hole and out the side of the bumper. Well take our bolt leader and pull it down through between the body work and the bumper structure, and then well pull our block and carriage bolt through and then add our lock washer and nut. Well do this on both sides of the vehicle. Once again, well run our block and our bolt through. Then well install the remaining hardware. With all our hardware installed, well go ahead and tighten down everything and then torque it down as specified in the instructions. Then we can go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. With that, that will finish it for our install of part number 60808 from Hidden Hitch on our 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt.
