How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2008 Hyundai Elantra

Today on this 2008 Hyundai Elantra were going to install part number 24795 from Draw-Tite. This is what the hitch looks like when its installed on the vehicle. Next well go ahead and give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier, from the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be about ten inches, from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the bumper will be about six inches. Now well go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed.First thing were going to do is show the attachment points on the frame, they are located on the side of the frame and there are two threaded holes, this will be the same on both sides of the vehicle. Our first step well go ahead and clean out the threads, well take some spray lubricant and a tube brush and well go ahead and clean out the threads, part number for our tube brush is 814092. Then well go ahead and test fit it with a bolt, if it threads in okay well go on to the next one.

Now the older the vehicle is the longer this process will take and eventually may need a thread tap to help clean out the threads.Next well go ahead and lower the exhaust; well spray down the exhaust hanger a little bit with some more lubricant and pry it off. Next we need to loosen up the bumper fascia to install the hitch. There will be two tabs on the outside edge with the plastic rivets, well go ahead and remove those now to make it easier to install the hitch. The hitch will actually set above these fasteners when its all said and done. Now we can go ahead and install our hitch, well take the hitch and slip it over the exhaust with the arm bracket first and then well go ahead and slip it underneath the frame and along the side.

Well also need to pull out the bumper fascia to clear the supports and then well push it into place. Now well work our way to the other side onto the driver side. Again well pull out the supports and work it in place. Now the edge of the hitch well be really close to the edge of the fascia at the bottom in the corners so well have to pull it out to give us some room to put it into place. Now well go ahead and take our fasteners and put them into place, well take our bolt and our concial toothed washer and install it into the hitch. Now well going to install our concial toothed washer, well make sure the teeth are pointing towards the hitch.

Well go over to the passenger side and repeat the same process.Once we have all the hardware installed we can go ahead and tighten down the bolts by hand, then well go ahead and torque them down as specified in the instructions. At this point we can go ahead and reinstall the exhaust and support sir plastic fascia by reinstalling the plastic rivets. Now on this is installed weve also noticed that the center fascia mount does touch the hitch a little bit and it may or may not deform the bottom edge of the bumper fascia. That will finish it for our install of part number 24795 from Draw-Tite on our 2008 Hyundai Elantra.
