How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2008 Dodge Caliber

Today on a 2008 Dodge Caliber we're going to install part number 60832 from Hidden Hitch. This is a Class 1 receiver hitch, inch and a quarter. This is what the hitch looks like once it's installed on our Caliber. Next, we'll give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories such a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From top of receiver opening, down to the ground, will be about 13 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the bumper, is about six and three-quarter inches out. Next, we'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. First we'll go and show you where the hitch mounts up on the vehicle.

Now this will be a really easy install. It's going to use existing holes on the side of the frame here. Now hardware will go in from here and emerge on the other side of the frame which our hitch will sit on, so these two holes on this side. The driver's side is going to be identical. Two holes here and two holes in the back. It might be a good idea to take a moment and clean out any debris that's inside the holes like dirt, dust, bugs.

We're using a tube brush, part number 814092. Now here's a hardware, it's nine-sixteenth bolt. Let's go ahead and run it through the hole here. A little bit of a tight fit. Probably take a socket and just go ahead and spin them in to place. We'll use a fifteen, sixteenth socket to help spin it through.

Probably be a good idea to run in and out a few times to make sure it's all cleared out. Now we have our bolts put in but just comes out to the edge so I have room to put our hitch up into place. At this point, we'll go ahead an hold our hitch up in position. Then we'll go ahead and thread the bolts through. Now we'll go ahead and put our lock washers and nuts into place. All our hardware started, we'll go ahead and tighten down our bolts.

Then torque them down as specified in the instructions. With that, that will finish it for our install, part number 60832 from Hidden Hitch, the Class 1, inch and a quarter receiver hitch on our 2008 Dodge Caliber. .
