How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2007 Honda CR-V

Today on our 2007 Honda CRV, well be installing Curt Hitch, part number 16555.This is what our hitch will look like once its installed. Next, well go ahead and give you a couple of measurements. This will assist your selecting accessories such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole, to the outermost edge of the bumper is 2 inches. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 15 inches. Now, well go ahead with the installation. To begin our install, well first go ahead and lower the exhaust from the passenger side.

To lower the muffler, well need to remove the two rubber isolators from metal hanger. To do this, well spray each one with some spray lubricant and then use our pry bar or plyers to remove the rubber isolators. Then we can go ahead and allow the exhaust to come down and away from the frame. That would be total of four attachment points for our hitch. These attachment points, the weld nuts, built into the frame by a manufacturer. We want to clean out each one of these weld nuts, because overtime theyre going to build over it rust, dust, dirt, and debris.

Using a spray lubricant and a half inch nylon toothbrush, part number 814092, well thoroughly clean up the threads of the weld nut. Then we can go ahead and take one of the new 10 millimeter bolts, thread it into the weld nut to make sure go nice and easily.Once we have the weld nuts cleaned out were now ready to install the hitch. Take the hitch and feed the fastener side up over the exhaust and then bring the driver side tight to the frame. Take one of the new 10 millimeter bolts along with a conical toothed washer. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch.

Well install it through the hitch into the weld nut. Well install each fastener finger-tight until we have them all in place. With both bolts installed here in the driver side, well move over to the passenger side, and repeat the same process. Now with our frame fasteners in place, well need to install the u-bolt over the two hook and into the hitch. Once we have the u-bolts in place, well then install a nut for each side of the u-bolt. Now, all our hardware is in place and finger-right, well go ahead and run it down.

Next well torque the specifications as indicated in the instructions. With everything torque down, well now go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. That does it for the install of the Curt two-inch receiver tube hitch, part number 13555 on our 2007 Honda CRV. .
