How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2007 Ford Escape

Today on this 2007 Ford Escape, were going to install part number 12060 from Curt. This is what the hitch looks like once installed on the vehicle. Next well give you some measurements thatll help you out in selecting some accessories, such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be 17 inches. From center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper will be one and a quarter inches. Now Ill go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. First Ill point out the mounting locations for our hitch, which will be here and theyre identical on both sides of the vehicle. Our first step is to go ahead and install the hardware in the frame.

Well use the fish wire that comes with the kit. Well run it through the hole were going to use and out the end of the frame. Then well install our block and then attach the bolt. Well go ahead and take the bolt leader and thread it through the block and then screw it onto the bolt. Then well go ahead and pull our bolt on through and out the bottom.

This is it for the passenger side and well repeat the same process over on the drivers side. Now on our passenger side were getting space in between the hitch and the frame. At this point, we can go ahead and lift the hitch into position attaching it to these two bolts. Well attach the hitch using a conical tooth washer and nut. You want to make sure the teeth on the washer will point up towards the hitch. Now well leave this hardware lose, so we can move the hitch around to install the rest of the hardware. Now with the hitch loosely installed, we can go ahead and install the rest of the hardware.

Well guide our pull wire through the mounting location and then out the access hole. Well then install our block and thread on the bolt and pull them into position. Well repeat this for the other mounting locations. With all our hardware installed, we can go ahead and tighten down the bolts and then torque them down as specified in the instructions. With that, thatll finish it for part number 12060 from Curt on our 2007 Ford Escape.
