How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2007 Dodge Ram Pickup

Today on our 2007 Dodge Ram pick-up, we'll be installing the Hidden Hitch trailer hitch receiver, part number 82534. Here's what the hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements, to help you choose some accessories for your hitch, such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pinhole, to the outer most edge of the bumper is approximately 2". Now the receiver does stick approximately a half inch out past the bumper, on this vehicle. From the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately 18 1/2". Let's go ahead and install our hitch. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands, to help you raise the hitch up into position.

First, we're going to put the hardware in at the 2 rear most locations. Because this is a 1500 model series pick-up truck, we will be using the lower hole to install our hardware. We will be installing a 1/2" by 2 1/4" hex bolt, a 1/2" flat washer and in between the hitch and bumper bracket, we'll be installing a 3/8" by 1 1/2" by 3" block. Then on the outside of the bumper bracket, 1/4" by 1 1/2" by 2" block, followed by a 1/2" lock washer and finally a 1/2" hex nut. This will be the same hardware used on both sides. Next, we're going to need to install the carriage bolts and blocks into the frame of the vehicle. You'll want to install the forward most location first.

We will be using the hole closet to the rear, since this is a short bed model. For the forward most location, you'll take the 1/4" by 1 1/2" by 3" square hold spacer block and you'll feed it in from the rear of the frame. Once we have this forward block lined up with the hole, we'll then take our fish wire and go through the hole in the hitch and come out the hole here on the side of the frame. We'll then pull our fish wire into place with our carriage bolt, going through the block, through the frame and out the hole in the hitch. We'll then put a 1/2" lock washer, followed by a 1/2" hex nut. For the rear location, you'll take the 1/4" by 2" by 2" square hole block. You'll slide it in from the rear of the frame, lining it up with the rear mounting location.

You'll then take the 1/2" carriage bolt and if you go here on the side of the frame, you can drop it right into place, coming out the bottom of the hitch. Once the carriage bolt's in place, you'll go ahead and put a 1/2" lock washer, followed by a 1/2" hex nut. You'll go ahead and repeat the same process on the other side, for the forward and rear mounting location. Now that we have all the hardware installed, we'll go ahead and tighten everything down. We'll torque it to the manufacturer's specification. That'll conclude our installation of the Hidden Hitch trailer hitch receiver, part number 82534 on our 2007 Dodge Ram pick-up. .
