Today on our 2007 Dodge Durango, well be installing Curt Hitch, part number 13072. Now before we being our install, heres what your hitch will look like on the vehicle. Well now go ahead and give you a few measurements to help you when selecting accessories, such as a draw bar, a bike rack or a cargo carrier. Now the center of the hitch pin hole is even with the outermost part of our bumper. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 21 inches. Now lets go ahead with our install. Now weve already gone ahead and lowered our spare tire, which is the first step of installing this hitch.
Underneath the vehicle here, were going to go ahead and lift our hitch into position and center it on the vehicle cross member. Well mark the areas here on the cross member where our U-bolts will go around. We can then go ahead and lower the hitch and set it off to the side. Now here on our marks, were going to need to cut out the re-enforcement Styrofoam plastic fascia. Were going to go ahead and use a three quarter inch drill bit and a cordless drill to cut the plastic on the re-enforcement. With our re-enforcement cut out, we can then take our U-bolts and move them around the vehicle cross member allowing the open end to point downward.
Now with both U-bolts in place, well go ahead and raise the hitch back up into position and attach it to the U-bolts using the half inch by 13 flange nuts. Now you want to go ahead and snug them up finger tight as well now use the hitch as a template to drill the two holes in the cross member here and here. In order to gain access to these holes, well go ahead and take out the four bolts holding the bumper fascia down. With the four bolts lose we can then push the bumper fascia up and using a block of wood, hold the fascia out of the way where we can use a step drill process to open up our hole to the correct size. Now that we have all four holes drilled, well go ahead and take our two long bolts, slide the flat washer over the bolt and slide the bolt through the hitch, through the two holes that we just drilled and back through the hitch and tighten it down and then install our flange nut. Now we have all our fasteners in place and we can go ahead and tighten them down and torque them to specification as indicated in the instructions. With all of our fasteners torqued to specifications, we can go ahead and reinstall the four fascia mounting fasteners and put our spare tire back, which will complete our installation of part number 13072 on our 2007 Dodge Durango. .
